Halo: CE was an outstanding single-player experience, and a great LAN party game. Halo 2 was the best multiplayer shooter ever in my opinion. Halo 3 was good, but not amazing. Reach is... alright.

Overall the series is very good. The first 2 games brought a lot of innovation to console games, controls and shooter stories in Halo: CE and online multiplayer in Halo 2. Everything since Halo 2 has been fairly mediocre though.

Halo 3 happened. It wasn't a bad game, it just relied too much on the first game's innovation and focused too much on multiplayer. Reach fixed that, though.

It's a console FPS. They all have exactly the same thing wrong with them. FPS's cannot be controlled comfortably with console controllers.

You can't have a poll with the title "whats wrong with halo?" and then only leave those choices. Its like they're completely unrelated to the question!

I'm a fan of the Halo series, so my info will all be second-hand.
From what I hear, Halo haters don't like it for its lack of realism (lol), bland story, lack of any real innovation since Combat Evolved, its rabid fanbase (mostly the hate-spewing foul-mouthed 12 year olds), and the fact that it is generally over-hyped when it is really only "mediocre."

Pros:

Regenerating health paired with long kill times which allow for "I actually outplayed that guy (if I used a weapon that wasn't cheap)" kills instead of "Oh I saw him first so I won with my ADS required, all purpose, instant kill time AR" kills in most modern shooters.

Good Infection gametypes on good maps. Halo 3 particularly had access to good custom games because it only used forged maps.

The Needle Rifle... Christ that gun is awesome.

The Energy Sword paired with Evade, awesome CQC loadout that has some survivability.

Campaign that isn't bad. It's really fun to play on co-op assuming you have a friend.

The Halo Reach Beta, particularly Generator Defense (when it didn't lag) and the early version of of Invasion. [http://files.sharenator.com/AYAW_Are_You_A_Wizard-s500x664-149176-580.jpg]

Cons:

I have to start with the weapons the gametype tells me to start with. If I want to play with the shotgun I have to be sure not to die with it in addition to being the first person to pick it up in the first place. Do people honestly think this is a power weapon in comparison to the ranged/all purpose CE Pistol, BR or DMR? For fucks sake, that was a reason enough for me to sell Reach, H3 and ODST.

Dying to ACTUAL power weapons. The Sniper and Rockets are cheap and overpowered because not everyone has access to them and they're being faced off against lesser weapons. Unfair advantage is unfair, if you disagree then you obviously enjoy kicking babies with steel toed boots.

Reach added bloom incorrectly so it basically added RNG into a firefight.

Halo 1-3 have had SLOW movement speed. Seriously, the best thing about Reach are Sprint and Evade because they let you get around the map quickly.

Bad Infection Gametypes, particularly Reach's Infection playlist. The maps are way too easy to camp on the the zombies are ridiculously underpowered.

Campaign that isn't good. I can't think many "WOW" moments in this series other than CE's Flood reveal and H2's Scarab rapage.

I like being able to lean back in my chair with a controller in any position instead of having an uncomfortable and awkwardly shaped keyboard on my lap or on a table with a flat surface next to me for a mouse, thanks.

What was good about Halo? It got popular, I guess.
Just to be clear, I picked "yes."

The main reason why I didn't play a Halo game before is that I want to have the full experionce of playing the game. So, I guess that I'm waiting till they remake "Halo 1 & 2" for the 360 before I play it.

What's wrong with Halo is the misconceptions people have about the games, and thier fans, something I intended to help fix in my thread here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.280915-Ask-a-Halo-fanboy-anything-Removing-common-misconceptions#comment_form] (please don't post in that thread, I don't want this to be seen as advertising, and I have no interest in that thread being revived, this thread is perfectly fine for the same topic)

Even in this thread, I see these sterotypes in posts by people, and don't even realize it.

Since that thread hads been dead for a while, i'll be willing to address questions here until this one dies, then maybe i'll make a part 2 of my original one.
