I was always a Final Fantasy type of person. I was more into RPG than FPS in my youth, so I started FPS somewhere around Halo 2's rise.

I would have put mid 90's, like 94-96 as you had Doom 2 and Quake 2 and Hexen and Heretic released around those times, that was the transition between sprite and 3D IMHO, altho Doom 2 wasn't as advanced as Quake in terms of graphics.

That entire Die-Hard trilogy was gold.

Either way, late 90s. GoldenEye, one of the first games to incorporate the zoomable sniper rifle into FPS. 1997 was a great year.

that was a great year ^.^

I guess I first started on Doom and Dark Forces but I've probably spent most of my FPS time on Unreal Tournament. I don't really play too many FPSs now.

Doom, then Dark Forces, then the original Medal of Honor. Medal of Honor was the first one that I actually enjoyed.

I'm not sure to be honest. I think the first I enjoyed was the first halo. The interface and controls where friendly enough to get me into.

Way back in the day I got up late at night to play my dad's copy of Doom for the N64 that he wouldn't let me play, and I loved it. I actually ended up through most of the game before I was ever caught, and my dad got mad but saw how far I had made it in the game and let me keep playing.

It's still a game I love, despite being a cheap port of a much better game.

I started off on Doom. My dad, my brothers and I loved playing Doom. I sort of find it odd that I played it since I was around five when I started playing, but nothing brings families together like killing demons on Mars.

My first FPS.

Just out of interest, why isn't the rise of the consoles start in the late 90s? I remember getting my N64 for my 5th Christmas in 1998. And even then it was several years old.
