The origin of morality not its continued existence.
The origin of morality likely dates back to when we were still primitives and we figured out that killing all the buddies in our nomadic tribes was a bad idea, because then we'd be all alone and be royally screwed and unable to take care of ourselves and/or our women.
And that was part of my second post in this thread, thanks for reading.

The person.

I have physical copies of all games I play, but even if I didn't, I would hate myself my whole that being that selfish.

Then why did you post in the first place about religion being an important factor in morality?

When you agree with the fact that religion merely preaches morality, and did not create it.
Think of it like the discovery of a viral video, it existed before but no one cared. Religion was an important factor in the spread of morals.

Alar it's cool.

Damn you digital distribution!
I would save the stranger of course. Anything else would be some fucked up shit and I don?t know how I would live with myself.

I'll save the poor stranger. Quite a no-brainer.
Yeah.

The minute someones life comes after a video game, the minute Jack Thompson wins.

the stranger, of course.

I can always re-play the games - would be a nice excuse to enjoy them all over again.

How can I live my life and play a video gaming knowing in my mind that I caused the death of a person? I can't live with that.

I'm not so sure I believe that.

i hate to say this, but some account can likely be found by googling religion in morality.

I'd have to pick my stuff, and people will hate me for it.
Why?
1. I have about 10000 hours sunk into building Moscow in Minecraft
2. A person dies every 13 seconds or so. I hate having things break with averages.

I would save the stranger- not because it's the right thing to do, but since I've lost my gaming memories/instincts I can relive all the gaming moments all over again (scary moments in Resident Evil, collecting Pokemon, some moments in Zelda, etc.)

A life is ultimate in value. Letting it go to waste for inanimate objects is simply ridiculous. In the pet one, it was a bit more moving because pets don't crash on you every 30 minutes or so, and you treat them like family.
The only way I would pick the other is if the stranger wants to hurt me or anyone else.

Assuming that saving the stranger means I lose all the hard work I've put into the game I'm making I would definitely chose the data to save.

However, if my unfinished product of a game is safe from going poof then I would chose stranger because I can live without my achieves and game data. My Minecraft spire of doom would make me a bit upset, but I can deal with it.

I'm quite invested in my game saves and score but I'd still obviously save the stranger. truth be told anyone that would value a human life beneath some virtual data needs to have a nice long look at themselves in the mirror. I mean if you had any idea who it was and it was a drug addict or psycho or something sure there's some moral ambiguity there. A complete stranger though? what if it's a child, or a parent or hell just an all around nice guy that you let die because you wanted to have some entertainment you can just regain anyway.
