When I was playing Prototype, I spent more than 50 percent of it fucking around the early stages with all the powers. Mass Effect is also a great example of this kind of replay. When you start again with more than the socks around your ankles.
Why can't more games have this? I would have loved to play through FF thirteen again with all my stuff! Devil May Cry does it...why can't you!
Some say 'It ruins it for some games'. I personally don't buy it. I had the most fun playing KOTOR 2 when I used a cheat save that gave me all my stuff from the start.
Almost every Bioware game should have this. Also JRPG's. It's fun! I don't wanna find all the weapon upgrades for the assault rifle again on Vanquish. I already did it!

That felt good...what do you think? Should more games have this kind of replayability? And if so, why?

Why should I care? After you've played through the story once, theres no incentive to play through it again because you already know it. Thats just how storybased games work, and thats fine. Companies shouldn't try to shoehorn unwanted "replayability" into a game that doesn't need it.

New Game+, the main reason I have finished Ratchet and Clank games, Jak and Daxter games, Jade Empire and Mass Effect so many times. Though I finish KOTOR 1 and 2 every time I get bored, simply because they just don't get boring for me, no matter how many times I replay them.
I loved Jade Empire, I played it on the X-box Religiously. But I never saw a new game + option.

Vanquish has insane replayability, just for the mechanics alone.

Beaten Godhard (no weapon upgrades, different enemy formations) yet? How about the tactical challenges? Where do you rank worldwide?

Take a look at Molu_JPN videos on youtube to get an idea of just how good this game can be.

My mind: it is blown. I didn't think anyone wanted to play through that again.

Anyway yes. Carrying over your stats to a new game as seen in Prototype and Mass Effect should happen more often. It's fun. And to those who would say "but it breaks the game" and other nonsense, nobody is making you play that mode. You can just go start a brand new game and have nothing if that's what you want.

Of course, there should be more replayability than just New Game + as well.

No offense but that hassle is the core of what RPGs are about gameplay wise. So if you don't enjoy that maybe the genre is not for you.
Not sure if serious... The core of RPGs is not grinding for hours and hours and hours for some rare weapon drop. It's becoming a stronger character as you play through the game via leveling up.

New game plus needs to be put in all FF remakes and games in the future.
Alternate endings and paths need to be made on unbeatable characters.
Nippon Ichi Software is really good about that. Especially their Disgaea series.

On subsequent playthroughs, they allow you to go through alternate paths with greatly buffed enemies. Also, you can pass 'bills' to strengthen enemies, and if you lose most 'important' fights, you'll get an alternate ending. (Example, if you lose to Vyres in Disgaea 1 or Raspberyl in Disgaea 3)

Soul Nomad and the World Eaters also has the 'Demon Path' for your second playthrough in which you kill your foster mother, best friend, and raze your hometown to the ground then go on to take over the world.

Demon Path was particularly cool because most of your 'allies' were villains in the normal path, you murder most of your former allies, and you kidnap some former allies and force them to fight for you...some of them, like Gallahand, start to go really insane from it all.

I loved soul Nomad.
It however didn't have any real challenges due to the broken as heck items you could have and leveling in that game was perhaps the easiest.
Other games make you work for it more.

Depends on the game. Adventure games inherantly have zero replayability, FPS games don't have very much either. Things like RPGs are where replayability becomes a big selling point.

Multiplayer has essentially replaced traditional "re-playability" which I think is fine, but every game doesn't have to be replayable. Some games are designed in ways that can't allow it and altering the design changes the game.

It has gave way for graphics made for people with attention disorder.
Though i agree with consensus that multiplayer is replacing replayability. Which is sad, because i dont play multiplayer.

i beat the final boss and i was like, "wait theres still more game? what do i do...? oh its just those pointless side missions...? okay im done with this game now."
These "pointless side missions" as you put it were more interesting than the story itself for me :)

Whatever happened to simply replaying games because they were fun? Oh right, kids today have to be bribed and given unlockable gimmicky bullshit before they'll say a game has "replay value".

Jade Empire Special Edition (PC).
The NG+ is a Jade Master difficulty level. Which is ridiculous. It was so hard I had to do 2 of the fights some 40 times.
