Well, I'd say that tattoos have way more potential to be cool, but they also have more potential to be incredibly stupid. A scar is only stupid if you get it in a stupid way, and thats not all that bad. But someone could get a tattoo of the ICP guy. And that's just unspeakable.
With scars, you have a legitimate right to be all badass and dark and edgy and whatever (as long as there's truly badass and dark and edgy story to go with them, anyhow). [footnote]Please note that i speak about dark edginess in a semi-serious tone.[/footnote]
Tatoos, on the other hand... meh. Just meh. Most of them are just bland, and all that ink surely can't be good for health.

A good tattoo can be something that represents something (like the death of a loved one) or perhaps is something that is just plain awesome (such as getting lips tattooed on your ass), but at the same time tattoos can be terrible. But it also depends on the person, some people suit tattoos some don't.
Scars are good because they remind us of things that once happened. However that isn't necessarily a good thing. Not all scars are cool but they can still be important to us.

Like a lot of people have said already, the answer to this question depends entirely on context. People can get both tattoos and scars in meaningful or meaningless, cool or uncool ways. They can both be ugly.
I have a scar on my hand, right over the big muscle at the base of my thumb. First day of a new job and I cut myself open with a box cutter. Not my finest moment.
I would require a very special reason to get a tattoo.

Well, its what i was bought up to beleive by my dad, said dont use tattoos to make your body look any better, get muscles and sculpt yourself that way, which i am on my way to doing.manaman said:

I don't think they're that cool. Tattoos generally give the appearance that you're trying to look macho, and scars are, well, just injuries.

Scars show that you're clumsy or the kind of person that gets into trouble often. Tattoos make people seem unhappy about their status around friends. That's how I think it works. But then again, Scars can be accidents and tattoos could be for mementos, Ect.
But to me, A tattoo is a scar. It'll be with you forever and it'll look hideous in the end.
I have many scars. I dont think they are cool. they make me uglier and more half orcish than I allready am.
