Hunting rifle, best combination of accuracy damage and availability! That said the submachinegun and combat shotgun are also good fun (even if the former eats all your ammo in no time and the latter needs repairs every proverbial clip).
That said, I can't say I much liked the engine, without VATS (and sometimes with) it just failed as a shooter... Which isn't surprising given that it was essntially the TES engine...

My game's heavily modded, and as such I've taken to playing a stealth commando/sniper type...Endurance 3, Strength 5, on Very Hard. Much easier done than said, though, when you're packing a silenced scoped AK-47. So, uh...yeah, that's my favorite.
In an unmodded game, I happen to love the Xuanlong Assault Rifle. Nice combination of DPS, range, and ability to lay down suppressive fire.

Vengeance, special gattling laser cannon was sweeeet!
Other than that; always kept that scoped Gauss rifle on me, as a 'just in case' weapon, for just in case the standard weapon I was using wasn't good enough. Never actually used the thing though!
