I played Saints Row 2 for well over 50 hours, over the course of a week or so, before I saw the ending of it.

Final fantasy VIII. It was my first real play through, so I didn't know the ropes, and stuff like junction. So I kept getting my ass kicked by a boss, then when I finally defeated the boss, I got my ass kicked by the next one. Easily over 300 hours of gameplay to do it.

Metal Gear Solid 3 on European extreme....i spent about 9 months worth of game time trying to beat that

(for those who don't know European extreme is the hardest difficulty mode, if you get spotted by an enemy it's game over)

It took me well over 450 hours to get to Alterion on Monster Hunter Tri, I mean you never really complete a Monster Hunter game but beating the last monster feels like the end.

Also Final Fantasy VII has taken me over 10 years to finish... lol as i just can't seem to get into it ever i keep on restarting and then never getting very far.

I've played a couple hundred hours of Oblivion, and I still haven't finished it because I wasn't too interested in the main questline. I was more interested in exploring the world and finding dungeons and sidequests.

Considering most of the time counters stop at 99h59m59s (or 00h00m00s in rare cases) I don't really know the longest I've ever spent before finishing.

Final Fantasy 6, 7, 9 and 13 are way up there. So are Pokemon Blue, Yellow, Gold and Leaf Green/Fire Red.

pokemon pearl took me around a week to finish the main storyline, so did COD:black ops and halo 3. COD 4 took me a little over a week and a half to beat. those are the only games that come to mind.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. The game's main quest is very long but also very interesting. Not only that, I did a lot of side quests on the way. Took me about 50-60 hours to finish the main quest.

Does it count if I stopped playing Bomberman 64 II (a game I LOVE TO DEATH, by the way) for several years until I was better at video games and successfully obtained both endings?

Personally? Pokemon Black Version, at 32 hours over about two months. And I'm really hoping that Deus Ex 3 will take me longer than that, if I ever end up beating it.
I can't even beat Pokemon Black. Maybe I'll try again soon and it will go the way of Bomberman 64 II.

If were talking in real time then five to six years to finish metal gear solid 3:snake eater, If were talking in game time then maybe 30-40 hoirs of fallout 3, though on the second playthrough i got impatient and did it in 1-2 hours :p

I have yet to complete FFIX, I've got to the very final boss fight, and because it's shoe-horned in with no back story, nothing at all to have any reason for existence I switched the console off in disgust, that was way back when it was released. I'm playing it now determined to get to the ending and ignore the game's one flaw.

As for games I've actually completed probably about 100+ hours on FFXII, loved that game and wanted to do more before I reached the final boss.

finishing the main quest was among the last things I did in Morrowind. That should tell you how long it took for me to beat the game. If you can even call it that.
