To keep from getting in trouble with the mods due to low content and to avoid de-railing this whole thing with random pony pics; I just have to say that Derpy Hooves is my favorite pony for a reason. She pretty much embodies why I'm so interested in MLP:FiM right now; the memes associated with it. She has little importance in the show itself, but has grown to something so much more than what she was (a random background pony) within the fan-culture.
It's funny because he/she (?) hasn't had a single line of dialogue yet. And I hope they keep it that way!

Not true. She had exactly one word in Applebuck Season. She said "muffins."

It's as simple as the fact that it is a good show. I would say on par with Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Perhaps even better.
Them be fighting words. When I eventually watch it, it has a high standard to live up to now (I'm aware its by the same person though, so that makes me hopeful).

OT: I have yet to see the show, as stated above. Not really on my list of things to do, but I'm open to giving it a chance.

To answer your question, I'm assuming its a mixture of A) they enjoy the show, and B) its a show that most people wouldn't expect 20 year olds or so to enjoy, therefore its cool in a way to express said enjoyment.
Maybe i'm old, or maybe it's because i'm a girl, but i hated both those shows.

Nowadays I can't even search for the old, good MLP, or even the less good but still good MLPTales. All that shows up is this 'friendship is magic' thing that is tearing my childhood happiness to pieces, putting it into a blender, and forcing me to drink it while stomping on my heart.

I hate you lady who created this show. I hate you with every fiber of my being and hope you choke on the cocaine you buy with the money you make off this show. Because that is the only way to make something so awful. With large amounts of cocaine.
You know, for a second I was going to challenge you on your hate for the show, but I honestly can't. You loved the old ponies. I'm sure that I'd react pretty much the same way in your position. I'm really sorry you feel that way. I hope you don't let the new stuff ruin your memories of the old show.
I won't let it ruin ponies for me completely, that's for sure. I just wish an internet search for something relating to the old MLP wasn't all but impossible to find, even with rubber boots and the biggest pruning shears one could find.

It also makes you wonder what they'll ruin next. Luckily they've stayed away from carebears for now.

Ohhhhhhh. Completely missed that! I did wonder how the muffins thing came about!

Actually, that's wrong (incoming Nerdiness) she says the word "muffins" in episode three when Applejack made the "baked bads". That's one of the reasons why she's so often posted with muffins in hand.

Edit: Ninja'd so hard.

Yeah, I was on a forum where this was brought up. At first I thought it was just your standard joking/trolling motive, like, "Hey, but what if one of the characters jacked off while thinking about dinosaurs?" or that kind of thing, but as I looked over the initial post and more than 20 comments it slowly dawned on me that, "So Sherlock and My Little Pony are my two newest obsessions, what would happen if they met?" was a totally serious, non-ironic, non-sarcastic, actual fucking QUESTION.

Admittedly, I've not seen the new show; I hadn't even heard of it at the time. But seriously? No. Just, no. There is no fucking way this can be okay.

From what I've learned about her (I believe it's canon, or at least fanon, that Derpy Hooves is indeed female) she was originally a background pony who someone noticed had the derpy eyes.
Apparently Lauren Faust noticed the popularity of her and decided to put her in a couple more episodes. I've read that the only line she has ever said is "muffin", but I can't confirm that myself, as I have yet to watch that episode if it is indeed true.
And it appears that I was ninja'd about that last fact.

Probably a fad like half the things that happen on these forums.

EDIT: From the responses I gather there is some new MLP animated series or something?
Umm...yeah. It took you a while to figure that out, Didn't it? :p
Nope I just don't keep up with cartoons anymore.
No I saw the series bit and figured there was a series based on the OP and the next two or three comments. I wasn't aware of the series until now because I do not keep up with cartoons anymore. Are you done trying to feel intellectually superior by hanging on the details of my comments now?

If you're so sure it's bad, why not watch an episode so you can come back and tell us how bad it was?

I actually like it. I have a sneaking suspicion that this craze was started intentionally by Hasbro employees, but that doesn't make the show any less enjoyable.

Because it's AWESOME :D

Maybe we are overrating it a tiny bit, but it can't be all that much. Honestly the biggest surprise I've ever had in my entire life (and I don't say that lightly) was watching the first episode of this show and realizing that I liked it, and not only that, I also wanted to see more. Even looking past the excellent writing, voice acting, animation, characterization, structure, plot, continuity, humor, music, and themes, there's just something about this show that I can't get enough of. Maybe it's just that I've always been a sucker for adorable things. But that's not just me, we all are like that. Otherwise lolcats wouldn't still be around. Anyway, I'm addicted to poni, and I love it ^.^

I swear these same old topics get recycled on weekly basis...
Yeah, it seems as soon as a pony thread dies down a new one is started up again in a day or two.
Well, the schedule seems to follow the usual setup:

1) Someone asks 'WTF is with all these ponies?'
2) Us bronies jump in with explanations, usually with a pic or fifteen.
3) Nay-sayers appear, usually going 'Say Whaa?'
4) Many posts are made, people are convinced to watch the first ep, many are then converted and added to the herd.
5) Thread eventually dies, going off the first page.
6) Someone browses recent backlog, discovers massive thread devoted solely to Ponies.
7) Repeat step one.

Oh, if you were waiting for the 'Profit!' thing, that's step 4. Our MLP group always grows with these threads.

This vid has something to do with my interests.

A-ha! That'd be the vid that introduced me to this series, though I originally thought it was a web-miniseries.

While I don't care for the plot, it has good art, animation, and voiceover work.

Some of the individual characters are kindof amusing as well. Especially in memetic form.

Wait, but I asked you if what you were saying was that you didn't know of the show because you didn't watch children's cartoon's much, so why are you saying no when you're confirming what I asked? On the subject of the part I bolded: Not really, I'm confused by the way you worded what you've posted and I thought the mild snarkiness would be funny. If I wanted to make myself look better than you I would point out how you improperly quoted my post... :-D *note this is an attempt at silliness and I'm not trying to imply I'm automatically smarter just because your post didn't quote me properly*

IT'S MY LITTLE PONY.

IT'S MY LITTLE PONY.

One is a fairly realistic show, based off of one of the most intellectually interesting series concepts of all time, which essentially invented the episodic character-driven genre. Which MLP is.

And the other is about pastel-colored googly-eyed horses.

Be that as it may, I am now watching the first episode on youtube. I'll be back.

I'm pretty sure everyone's just enjoying it ironically.
In the words of a brilliant Engineer: NOPE.
I thought that's how it started too, up until the thread continued for a solid 4 pages describing how good it was to others.
I watched one episode, then thought I'd give two a go.
After the second I found out they were just pilots and decided maybe I should watch three to see if it changed drastically.
With three I noticed the characterised one pony in particular so I thought I'd watch the next five so I could get a good grasp on the characters and see how it went from there.
Then I watched one more after that to see where they'd go with it and to which I stopped myself and said: "Radoh, you've just watched eight episodes and are on the ninth, admit you like ponies. I did and I feel great about it.
