Have you ever watched Elfen Lied? Violence, violence, gore, sadness, cruelty, nudity and then heart melting cuteness amongst it all. Its cuteness is amplified because of all the violence and sadness you have seen.

I feel that this is a good analogy for describing the situation of ponies on the internet.

I think most of the cuteness there was intermingled enough with questionable sexualization that it worked in tandem with the ultraviolence rather than as a counter to it...

Point's valid enough though, if all you see are news and themes of violence and despair, then the desire for something utterly non-threatening probably arise for some.

Haven't seen it, only know it exists because of the internet. Maybe it is good, I've had people ask why I watch a children's show on nickelodeon. The answer is because its fucking Avatar.

We should make our own show, "My Giant Pony". It's sort of like Godzilla, except with a giant pony. Tokyo won't know what hit it.

Forgive me for this but I assume that, from this post, it is fair to say that you aren't watching something because of its label? So you admit the animation is good and that if it wasn't called My Little Pony or had a different animal you would watch it? That's...yeah...

I have to call you out on that as I think nostalgia is affecting you. The Escapist is the same as it always was. The only difference is that, thanks to forum titles changing and the more active members stepping up to Red Guard, there aren't such cults of personality anymore.

As for ponies ruining The Escapist? Take it from someone who has been here longer, ponies have been here since year dot since way before you. Susan likes them, we had a pony fan club way before MLP:FiM, there are pony badges and there is an official My Little Escapist Pony.

I really do like the show because well it makes me laugh and I just like it in general. Though what I find baffling is the amount of people who say "I'm a man and I wont watch girly stuff like that ever no matter how good it is".

I will say I am 19 years old and male and I do like the show, I don't care if its "girly" or whatever. I am confident enough in my own masculinity that I don't need to try and confirm it by saying I like things society finds "manly".

Nobody here would watch a Barbie anime because it has a 99% chance of being garbage. FiM is that one percent that comes along only maybe only once a decade if we're lucky to get it at all. It's the most recent example of a show that should have been bad but turned out fantastic because the staff working on it actually give a shit about quality writing and were around during the most important years for Cartoon Network.

I love the show, because of the characters, which I think is better than most in cartoons. The animation and stories are also good. I first heard of it, through someone who posted a link to the cupcakes story. I then watched the first episode and found it surprisingly good. What I like the most though, is how the show itself is very cute, but it has been given darker and more mature undertones, because of the bronies on the internet.

Firstly Nope, i still won't watch even if it didn't have the my little pony name slapped on it.

I only said the animation is good, because it is, it's well drawn (which can't be said for most cartoons these days), but that doesn't mean I'll become a brony, and watch all of the episode, and buy my little pony bed covers.

Secondly, you must be a fool to not believe that the escapist hasn't changed. What once was a small little gaming community became 4chan the second coming in a matter of months.

You don't have to look far to see evidence of this, their has also been countless of topics stating how much the forums have changed.

I for one will remain ignorant to the series, because it's just not my cup of tea (i'm not a huge fan of cartoons anyway), but if you love my little pony it's perfectly alright, but you should prepare yourself for any stick you get for enjoying the series outside the safety of the net.

Let just say, i'm not becoming a brony anytime soon.

okay this whole the escapist is so mature thing needs to stop. We're no different from any other gaming site out there. We have the same kind of peopl, we over react to the same things. I will say however we are beter at accepting other people opinions than others.

Universal humor, distinctive, rounded, well developed characters and fantastic art and animation.

That plus we can all lol at people so insecure they think it somehow makes you less of a man to watch it by mocking them with adorable pony pictures. That's a big plus.

What I'd like to know, is how many of the people swept up in this craze would openly admit it to family/friends/partners were they directly asked?

If they said "There is this following of the new My Little Pony show, are you a part of it?" How many would outright, and unashamedly say "Yes, I am?"

I don't think many would, although I could be wrong.
