What I'd like to know, is how many of the people swept up in this craze would openly admit it to family/friends/partners were they directly asked?

If they said "There is this following of the new My Little Pony show, are you a part of it?" How many would outright, and unashamedly say "Yes, I am?"

I don't think many would, although I could be wrong.
Right here. My mom questioned my sexuality. XD
But I have converted a couple of friends. I'm open about it.

I say like Paw on Thatguywiththeglasses.com - "When I sit down to watch something, the first thing I do is throw away my prejudices"."
And you know what? It works. I give shows a chance, and they either appeal to me or not, but not because "IT'S FOR GIRLS!". Because that's also a silly prejudice. So I decided to watch the first episode of MLP out of curiousity, and I was hooked.

I really don't mind people watching it, whatever their age might be. I don't really want to judge people by what they watch (I suppose this may be because i often watch anime. Some people get weird reactions when they hear that, and i really dislike it. So, am i trying to be nicer to other people. Don't really know if that makes any sense at all...)
But I don't want to watch it myself. Not a real fan of ponies here, and i kinda fear i might become a fan.
But overall, i like how so many people have changed their avatars because of the show. This stuff makes The Escapist even more interesting.

So, i guess go ahead, watch it, i have no problem with anyone watching it.

Okay. Question. To the one-hundreded and sixteen, 'ponies', how do you guys type?
Ponies? Do you mean Bronies? None of us actually claim to be ponies, I think you have us a little confused. We are fans of the show not otherkin :). If it was a light hearted post I am sorry, I'm tired and tones don't work over the internet.

You know what's scary is that this show hasn't even been out for a year yet and it already has superfans and superhaters. Harry Potter didn't have that till about the third book.

Wait till Christmas, you'll see. Shits gonna be crazy.

I have done. My sisters reckon I'm sad, but then they haven't watcted the show themselves.

I haven't seen it once, and I can't understand the fascination with it, unless it's some kind of failed ironic statement.
I don't visit 4chan. I don't really take part in all that meme tom-foolery. I don't care about my perceived status on the internet because, well, it's the internet. And yet, I love the newest incarnation of My Little Pony.

Having said that, let me ask you a question:

If I didn't really like the show, then why would I put effort into defending its virtues? I mean really, nobody would BLAME me for hating it, and it's not like I have anything to gain from telling that sort of lie. Indeed, were it a fact that I actually disliked the show, I would only be hurting myself and my interests by aligning myself in such a way. The obvious and most logical conclusion, then, is that I actually enjoy MLP:FIM due entirely to its own merit, which I and many others feel is extensive.

I actually think that if it was an ironic statement, it's rather succeeded.
Hint: Thirteen pages of discussion in this one thread alone.

what the hell are you doing here? you have access to the internet, so it is extremely easy to watch the show yourself and see what the fuss is about. but instead you'd rather start a thread asking strangers why they like it.

personally, i love it. it's the absolutely brilliant writing that does it, mostly, as well as the well-crafted likable characters.

I hated the show. the jokes were lame, & the writing made me want to puke. on the other hand, the animation is good.

i'll let the FANatics enjoy their show if they don't force people to like it. you know like Justin bieber elitists.

It's a cheesy, somewhat cutsey animated series with a few joks that slipped past the radar that isn't too fussed about people torrenting/watching on YT instead of TV because it makes it's money at the toy store.

Best explanation I got.

On 4chan, an unstoppable cute is a troll by being a counter-troll. Look at Boxxy. She represents child-like innocence that every insecure gore poster despises. Ponies are the same thing. To be honest, I really like the meme. The cuteness is hilarious. However, whether the show is good or not, knowing that adults are watching My Little Pony because of a meme is extremely funny.
...I may not get what you are saying here. Are you suggesting I'm trolling because MLP is cute? Moreover, what is Boxxy?

As for you finding it funny, I find it funny that you restrict yourself from things because of some inane reason like "I'm not the target audience."

You got the first part correct. You are a troll for reasons that will be explained. After your first question, your argument fell apart.

google does wonderful things, look up boxxy if you do not know who she is and why Ponies are trolls by being counter-trolls. And do not call me ignorant. You think that because you watch a show about ponies, you are better than everybody else, but you assume that it is the other way around. Get over yourself.

Also, you are putting words in my mouth. Do not do that. I watch enough children's shows based on MY interests. I did not play with My Little Pony toys as a child and I could not care less about what is done with the franchise. I do not feel superior. I simply have no damn interest.

Well, as an avid sc2 gamer i came across a sc2 / pony movie and was in similar fashin wtfed?

after watching 4 episodes ( the pilot / two more) i was puking rainbows and asking for MOAR!

so id say it hits that inner child just riiight and in turn it becomes trolldom and falls into culthood.

MLP FiM is definately not a girls show aimed to sell merchandice for sure.

To each their own, I say. I'm not saying it's a horrible show based on it being MLP alone, in fact I finally broke down and watched an episode last night and thought it was alright. I just really can't understand how interest gets piqued, with me only checking it out to see what all the noise was about.

"Bronies"? xD I swear, there's a diaper/diaper powder here with that name.
