I see no problem with that aspect of the game.

I will say that this is the first time that a story has been more obtuse than Killer 7 in my eyes. Nothing that any character says ever makes any damn sense.

Oh and the controls are unintuitive, and the encounter rate is stupid high, but I'm still absolutely loving it.

They look fine.
If you think that they suddenly got stupid/cute/anything else, you clearly haven't played Pokemon, because they have always been as stupid/cute/anything else as this. Anything else is just blind nostalgia.
Man, without the awesome Leonardo da Vinci avatar it took me a second to recognize you...
OP: He has a point. Pokemon has always had cuteness in it. Look at the poster child of the series: a cute little yellow mouse. Honestly, I welcome any change to the aesthetic. You gotta keep it fresh, yo.

i'm sure there are some god-mode bad-asses nearing the end of the game, there always is. But what's to keep a 1st time player interested??? in the original you got geodude and onix early in the game and they are beasts aesthetically, charmander looked like he was going to wreck you and wartortle was a BOSS. i just think there's a little too much cutesy going on. just got the 5th badge and now i have a badass little lighting tick that i'm having alot of fun with. so here's hoping :)

If anything they're not cute enough.

Many of the designs are visually 'busy' in the 5th generation. There are only a few designs I actually find 'cute' most just seem to be trying to put on the impression of tough.

I think it fair to say that most of the Pokémon first form is suppose to be cute since it supposes to reflect on real life animal. What I mean to say is that I tend to view the first Pokémon like e.g. Deerling as the baby/ young form. This is like when you first seen an animal that is a week or a month old which you will view it as "cute". The next evolve form Sawsbuck is when it had mature and grow up which again reflect when the animal had grow to be an adult.

I don't think the games have gotten more girly really. To be honest the only problem I have with the new gen pokemon is the way that the "cool" pokemon are starting to look. I liked the more simple aesthetic of pokemon like charizard rather than the too busy forms of things like Gigalith. It seems as though in order to make things look cooler now their only way to do it is to add more spikes/plates/etc.

Idk maybe it's me but it seems like Pokemon is becoming "cool" again. Then again I only hang out with gamers so maybe it's just my perception. I've played White for a little bit and what I really like is that there are no old Pokemon until you beat the Elite Four.
Also, the new Pokemon, I believe, have both cute characters as well as some bad ass ones. Especially once they evolve.

Yea, I remember when Pokemon was manly! with pokemon like Pikachu and Squirtle.

In all seriousness, I would never call Pokemon girly or manly at all. It's a game set in some kind of world where the only conflict or concern is apparently collecting small animals to pit them in fights against each other, but the animals are mostly cute and cuddly and supposedly deadly.

That said, though, the reason why I stopped playing after Gold/Silver was that the new Pokemon just werent as eye-catching or memorable as they were before. I remember looking at the new pokemon advertised in Ruby/Sapphire and forgetting about most of them after checking out the ad. The first 2 generations of Pokemon had great and memorable art design and naming- the first 150 especially. After that, I admit, the naming and the designs just seemed so... different than what I was used to.

I could be biased, of course, but I had a good time with Red/Blue and Gold/Silver. Would rather leave it at that and not soil my fond memories

Pokemon have lost that generic charm that the first 150 had a long time ago. I'm so glad a small few have realised what an embarrassment this -franchise- has become and hopefully the poor new designs.
I adore pokemon but as a fan I have the pokeballs to say it now sucks.. sorry. x

Hey, I like girly. <.<

Never, be afraid to unleash your feminine side. :p

But, I have not played Black or White so I do not know. :/

Real men are girly badasses. :p
The term you're looking for is fabulous, not girly. The latter is gender-specific, whereas the former is universal.

And there is nothing wrong with fabulousness. Obnoxiousness and gaudiness, yes, but not fabulousness.

So sayeth a Lord of the Izzardian Empire.

flying pink blob covered in purple flowers as my psychic powerhouse. Tell me what you guys think.
When you acommplish the mission after beating the second gym leader, you get the means to evolve that to a mushurna, and then its not pink any more, so thats no excuse. Besides, I have woobat as my psychic flying attacker and it has a freaking heart for a nose.

Personally, I think you're nit picking. pokemon always USUALLY start of cute in their first stage (unless they dont have an evolution). Charizard started as this:
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs31/f/2008/226/6/a/Chibi_Charmander____For_Eevee_by_Souzou_Kappukeki.png

Point being, give it time. And Game Freak may be trying to appeal to a more Female Demographic. Each Generation there have been more and more cute pokemon that stay cute (luvdisc, Feebas->Milotic, Latias, The Eevee line, Finneon->Lumineon, Budew line). If this is SERIOUSLY bothering, and making it so you're ashamed to say you play pokemon either you've outgrown the game, or are over-compensating for something.

*That was seriously my first girlfriend's remark to Charmander. Then once it become charizard, she said it wasnt cute. For the... 6(?) years she played pokemon, she never evolved her Charmander. ... damn, I miss her.
