There really isn't anything wrong with it. It doesn't harm the industries (as much as they want you to think it does, they can't actually pull any real numbers for it), and oftentimes it's really helpful, like with music it's basically free advertising, which is the one thing almost all musicians need the most. I've talked to a lot of pirates and it's not like they're evil or cheap or anything, they just see it in a different light.
The industry and the law see the relationship between the artist and the consumer as a purely economic relationship (one sells, the other buys, and the exchange is made totally on a monetary basis), while the pirates see the relationship as ... well, an artistic one (the artist puts himself out there and shows the world his work, lets everyone see it, and those who like it have the option of supporting that artist by providing him with money). And, more often than not, pirates will tend to support the artists they really enjoy.
The reason it's morally wrong to steal is not because the thief has now gained something, it's because the person he stole from has now lost it. But media isn't a thing, it's an abstract, an idea, it can't be gained or lost, it can only be spread. And personally, I believe all information and all ideas should be freely available to all people, regardless of the medium or usage. I suppose that's a big part of why I get along with so many librarians, lol.
