meta ridley from metroid prime
Meta Ridley's not so bad once you get his attack patterns down pat. He's just tedious, like the Metroid Prime and Essence.

Now Metroids, they are a pain in the ass. You need the ice beam and they take 5 fucking missiles to kill you and OH GOD GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME ARRGAHSGHAGSDJHASasda...
Yeah, I think the spirit of this thread isn't really boss encounters, more just really annoying baddies that cause mass death

Metroids in EVERY metroid game would certainly qualify

I'd have to say 'The saviour' from devil may cry 4, out of the games line up from the year gone, although bosses seemed way harder in games from previous generations...

and although not a boss, just all of 'mirror's edge', chr1st that's a frustrating game.

I don't think the Big Daddy really deserves a spot here. Sure he is big and scary at first...but when you realize that you can just wail on him till he kills you respawn ten feet away and continue bludgeoning him till he kills you and then...well you get the picture...I think that the artillery on Red Orchestra is cringe worthy. You are making a desperate charge at the allied lines when suddenly *whistle* *boom!* you are hurled twenty feet in the air and land with a sudden thud...

Big Daddy kind of failed after i discovered i could string 10 trip wire crossbow bolts across the room and insta kill him by having him charge through the wires to get at me.

Besides I whacked one to death by freezing it and hitting it with a wrench constantly it kind of lost it's fear factor after you get decent weapons so that is near Fort Frolic.

My vote goes to the tank why because on expert unless you team works together the tank usually means your fucked and big daddy only killed me once when I played for the first time.

The guardian of the timeline, the Dahaka. First time I got to get intimate with him, I was genuinely intimidated. So little time to time those jumps perfectly, it was good for inducing a little panic. And he would devour one in a blink. Just instant, creeping, roaring, almighty death hunting you through unstable environments. S'nice.

For super special ultra frustration, Sensei's and the boss Great Sensei from Godhand are hard enough to make you want to go back in time and halt the birth of the producer. Actually, pretty much just the entirety of Godhand kinda makes you die inside

I think some other frustrating/difficult fights would be:

Determined Dirna from Valkyrie Profile 2
Nightmare from the original Devil May Cry
Blitzes from DMC4 (Although they are hella fun to fight and make you look totally badass to anyone watching)
Hiruko from Shinobi
Sigma from Megaman X5
Final Guards in any Castlevania (RAAAAAGE)
And of course, any boss fight in MGS2 on extreme

The Dahaka is one thing I can unanimously say Warrior Within did right. I'm not going to start a WW discussion here, and I didn't care for the game overall, but the Dahaka - pure gold.

The Colossus of Rhodes - God of War II...2nd best boss fight ever. Review what you just did after finishing the boss fight and you are just like "Holy sh*t, did I do that?"

Sephiroth - Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2, Dissidia Final Fantasy - Just for being hardcore

Argorok - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - My mouth was dropped down even longer than it was in The Dark Knight when the Joker did "The Disappearing Pencil Trick"

Spider Splicer - Bioshock - I almost pissed my pants during that opening cutscene...Johnny NOOOOO! And their voice is very creepy.

The Bird - Ninja Gaiden (NES) - Tears... endless amounts of tears from repeatedly getting knocked off the edge...

Beserkers in GoW.
On my first ever play through of the game when it came charging its way through. I managed to swear more times than Marcus himself.
People should really stop using GoW for Gears of War because God of War kind of got there first...by a year and a half

The hardest boss I ever fought was Tala (Or Cassidy if you were evil) on Deadeye difficulty in Darkwatch. It's basically a phase fight, but the AI is amazing: it adapts just a bit to make your life miserable.
I remember that fight..... fucking impossible.

And SKX was pretty hard on the highest difficulty on Condemned.

The Tank is really on scary on Expert mode.. because it has so much damn HP and one shots people who are on green health.. plus on some levels you have to fight two of them.. i remember playing it with a friend, act 3 of no Mercy. Both the other players where dead and we where both in bad shape coming out of the sewer, we reach the street and my mate throws his pipe bomb to draw of the swarm only to see a Tank smashing through the swarm towards us.

I believe i said something to the effect of "Oh come on, give us a ****ing break"

But the Tanks are really on scary on expert mode.. on all the other modes they just have few too HP.

My vote is gonna go to Doc. Salvador

Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 2. He has about twelve life-bars, and his very first attack takes almost your entire health.

I Wanna be the Guy's Moon. Freaking evil.
Don't forget the killer cherries, stars, spikes, Mike Tyson, and Tetris blocks!
The moon was the thing that really pissed me off, because not only was it tough to figure out it surprised the **** out of me.
