Okay, so most of us will no doubt fit in with some other subculture rather than simply nerds and geeks. There has always been a stereotype that people who frequent internet forums and play most games or play WoW or mod computers or whatever are nerdy, geeky, and socially inept. During my time at the Escapist, and in the real world (obviously), I've learned that this isn't true. So what I wanted to know was simply this: What kind of subcultures make up the Escapist Community? Please excuse the poll, I simply think that it's an easier way of showing the exact proportions of each subculture here on the forums. I chose the most common ones, along wih an 'other' option for those few who don't fit these chosen categories. And to actually promote discussion, since I don't like list threads anymore than all of you, I pose a question - why is it that you are a member of that subculture, and what do you think of other subcultures that may or may not be similar?

I'll start you off. I'm personally a bit of a mixture between geek and indie. I like webcomics and computers, and gaming, and I intend to study an elective in computer programming. But I'm into indie and rock music and wear indie clothes, I have a distinct indie style about me. I prefer indie to dance music (unlike all but perhaps one of my housemates), and I'm attracted to indie (and goth, surprisingly) girls. I don't really have a problem with other subcultures, except chavs, but don't like the same stuff as them.

So what about you guys? If anyone feels like sharing, please post, we want to know about your stereotypes here :D

I'm a stereotypical bully/bad guy. The one draw back of being overtly bad ass is that you seem to trample on all the lesser stereotypes.

Possibly emo.

But without the clothing or coloured hair.

Typically I don't believe in labels, but I would probably call myself a punk. Mainly because I go to Punk concerts with mosh pits and punk rock and hardcore are my favorite genres of music. I usually dress in mostly black... and usually a band T. But I think I'm a nerd at heart. XD

I'm a geek. You know how I know? Because my plans for Halloween are to sit in my robe and play World of Warcraft. Yep, my life is pretty dull at the moment.

Well I tend to forum a lot , have little-to-no social life and Love Asia, with a Japan preference.

I guess i'm a combo of geek (Since i'm not smart I can't be a nerd) and a Japanophile (I heard it in a thread once, it means one who is obsessed with Japanese things, sounds like something else though)

Let's see:

Ghostbusters T-shirt: Check
Calculator Watch: Check
Pocket containing super glue, matches, and a multitool, just in case: Check

I'm gonna go ahead and say my nerdosity is quite high. I blame my dad for this. Most of my earliest memories are of me sitting and watching him play old computer games or of watching science fiction movies with him, and he bought me my first console for Christmas when I was seven, much to my mother's shock and anger.

Probably a geek because I get Dune references and go to university (of course, if I were to run a university, getting Dune references would be a requirement for students).
That would be the greatest school ever to grace the planet.

I guess I'm a nerd when it comes to random facts. Also, I don't have a very big social life. I would rather stay home alone and play games.

I don't believe in categorizing people like books on shelves, everyone is unique. The Indie choice is hypocritical, if you were Indie, you wouldn't categorize yourself as such because the term means that you fail to conform to a mainstream stereotype.

Where's the well dressed charming/handsome option?
Well dressed, charming/handsome? With bells on, I suspect. (Joke, this IS the internet after all.)

Twitchy, semi-psychotic looking weirdo with a spiky leather jacket and manky clothing. Where does that come under?

I think I have to be a nerd, video game nerd, movie nerd, fairly open minded but quick to form opinions. Kind of like to consider myself as quite alternative at least compared to the other people I know.
However I do not fit all the criteria of a nerdling as I am quite tall and do lots of weight training so I am fairly heavily built.

Although I suppose I could trade it all in for... whatever the stereotype is for a Sangheili these days.
