Well at age seven I was like "Screw puberty, I am going to stay a kid forever!" *Flys off to Neverland*

It's easier for girls to tell when they've hit puberty. If they're lucky, they know what's coming. If they're unlucky...Well, just watch Carrie.

Also, "about average" for girls is probably 11-13 somewhere.
That are you talking about? -everyone- knows when a guy's hit puberty. HE-llo, would you like FRI-es with that?
By this they are refering a girl's first period.

I was still in Primary School, so between 10 and 11. At first I was like "I have my period, I'm so grown up!" and then I was like "OH MY HOLY GOD PERIOD CRAMPS OW OW OW OW OW."

Oh, for some reason I read that as "it's easier to tell if a girl's going through puberty. Carry on.

I find it odd that people can pinpoint an exact year. It's not a finite thing that happens overnight. Anyway... I had to start shaving on a regular basis at 13. So I guess 13.

I think maybe 12- or 13.

At least that's when I started getting all those involuntary boners. (Mostly at school, natch.)
So, yeah I'm pretty sure I hit puberty at 13.

God, what a beautifully awkward time in my young, already awkward life.

Seems like most people here are earlier than average. So, is it really average now?
14-15 isn't nearly the average starting time. Not showing any signs by then would actually warrant a visit to a doctor, or even before that. 11 for boys and 10 for girls would be more accurate. OP needs better sex ed. Puberty starts way before you notice substantial amounts of hair or start smelling like an adult. Fatties also hit puberty earlier on average.

I think the smell thing is one of the weirder ones. My elementary school actually gave out deodorant to boys and pads for girls as sort of a "welcome to puberty" thing when we were around 11.

Also, is it just me or did the OP implicitly admit to being 12?
No i didn´t. I am still in Puberty, which is why i wrote "Am/was"

I also made a grammar error. I should say Hadn´t, instead of haven´t. Sorry about that, it´s fixed.

I have no idea. I guess it must have happened without my noticing it. I've been shaving since I was 14, but I didn't really need to shave at that age. I just did it one day and fell into the habit.

Nothing like your first shave, though. I had nobody to teach me, so I took the cold water sans lather approach. Joy.

Do recall inopportune moments when the ol' gentleman-sausage stood to attention some time beforehand. I don't know. Not entirely familiar with the specifics of puberty.

I dunno, it started around the time I went into junior high, and is taking it's sweet time.

Still won't let me grow any sort of decent facial hair though...

Uuuuuhh, I shot up in height when I was 12 (grew like an inch every two months for about a year and a half... it was noticeable), got the whole pubic hair business at 13, voice broke at 14, still waiting to get me a decent beard. However, being of Oriental extraction, that's not much of a surprise (I shave like once a week and you can make out every individual hair... it's annoying).

Anyway, the options are kinda off... though understandable (14-15 *was* average for a guy, as 12-13 *was* average for a girl... back in the nineties).

These days (and not being a human biologist) for some reason, kids seem to be going through puberty at about 11-12... or is it just me?
