I have only ever played it once on a friend's account. It isn't that great.
the thing is, no one who hates WoW has ever experienced enough to find it fun. starting on an account with a high level character loses the feel that the character is your own, and that you start with too much. other people are not dedicated enough to get past the uphill battle against your sanity that occurs from lvl 40-45 to lvl 58, so they never get to the fun parts of WoW. and the people who hate the $15 a month charge, dont realize that that $15 a month allows Blizzard to stay awesome and own its own publishing company.

i got WoW 3 months after TBC came out
Don't be so closeminded, a lot of players who hate WoW have played it for a year or more and then realised the waste of time it is.
you understand the only reason why people quit WoW is they dont have the time to commit to it, they found one of the brainwashing Xbox games, or found an MMO they find more fun. if you have played it for over a year, you do not quit it because you hate it. you wouldnt have played that long if you did
Then why do I have enough time, don't I have an Xbox (nor am I addicted to any other games) and I don't play another MMO. You sir are close-minded.

I did quit because I hated it, the being able to get stronger and tackle larger monsters hooks you, but if you manage to see past that all you see is a bad game. (Yes I know it has lore and the like, but real life does too)
its a great game, if you get over the endless grind and uphill battle for your sanity. then you have to realize that Warcraft is a cartoon that makes tom&jerry look conservative with its violence

It's a shame that people don't want to play it. Sure the first 10 levels are kinda easy and mindless but seriously people, this is NOT an FPS which gets you into the actions right off the bat (e.g. Call of Duty:WW- man gets his throat slit, you get rescued and they bomb the **** out of the place). This is an mmo and you need to put time and effort into it like any other rpg. I started playing in vanilla WoW and played on and off (damn cards!).

From Beta testing. Yep, I was one of the original 1000 beta testers :)
Ironic, seeing as I recently quit due to it taking over my life.

Ahwell, in my opinion WoW was better before any of the expansions. When getting to 60 was the dream, and owning Thunderfury was the epicness. When ZG was the ownage, and an experience.

IMO, the best areas of WoW were:

Stranglethorn Vale
Zangamarsh (Yeah, hypocrisy of my first statement about how bad the expansions are)
Un'Goro Crater.

I know they're only graphical creations, but I kinda grew up as my character grew. And you can remember your first ever character at level 1, and remember yourself 5 years ago :p
And (for me at least) certain areas remind me of songs (and vise versa) which I was really into at that time; because I had them playing while I was in that area.

Well, there's my views of WoW in a nutshell (It's a big nutshell, OK)

Yeah, remember when WoW was something you'd race home for, and stay up all night just to play. When it was a shinning gem in the sea of shit games at the time. When all you would think about all day is leveling up your character. Now it's lost its charm, and it trying desperately to hold onto it's players with expansions. It's lost me though :)

I started shortly after Burning Crusade. Or maybe it was shortly before, I can't remember. All I know is that I saw the Blood Elf dance and wanted in.

Yes, I know. Still, I find the game fun, so I play every few months.

I joined a few months after TBC was out. Black Temple wasn't out yet, neither was Sunwell patch.

the only possible reason for me getting WoW would be if i had way too much time and money on my hands. and if i had way too much time and money on my hands i would be fulfilling my dream of being an alcoholic, and filling up the gaps in my memory with free MMOs. the way i see it is if you like one you'll like em all. the people in that sort of game were what always hooked me in, not the content.

I've played WoW since the release day in '04. When/why we stopped is more relevant, really. Even though WotLK was amazingly well made, it lacked enough varied content. The nomal/heroic versions of instances was simply a ridiculous excuse to avoid having to make new, more challenging dungoens, and the recycling of models was incredibly annoying. Throughout WotLK, there are like 2 skins for every type of item, and it doesn't change until you hit 80 and head to Naxxramas. The Acchievement system etc. was just a plaything to keep the somewhat more hardcore PvE'ers occupied, and that really ruined WoW for me. The normal/heroic thing is not bad for all the instances you play through while levelling, as it provides more content at 80, but I really dislike the idea of it for raids.

Seems a like your trying to win against a 'fanboy'. Probably did read it, realised it wasn't undying praise for WoW and chose to ignore it.

I played the game hardcore pretty much from the beginning, in a server first guild, got a couple of chars to rank 14 in the 'old' pvp system, placed 1st in 2 seasons for 2v2 arena on my battlegroup.

I quit the game 2 months back, and once you step back from the game and realise A) how much time it takes to even do menial tasks and B) how little challenge there is in anything. ( which is how the game has been going since TBC first came out, Blizzard making it 'casual friendly' )

WoW will always have its rabid fanboy population until the day blizzard shut the servers down, and until then, they will defend the game to their deaths to justify and make themselves feel better about the huge amount of time that they have wasted on the game.

Ahh I remember the day well, for it was the day my soul was claimed by the devil. I later won it back from him in a high stakes poker tournament (ie. I sold my account some 2 years later and have never looked back).

I don't play.
I'm not sure I ever will, aside from the fact it's kinda expensive, my brother would probably kill me for even thinking about playing it.
I mean I've heard good thing and bad things about it and to be honest it looks like it takes up a lot of time and I get bored of games really easily.

From the start but by the time I got in some of my friends were already level 40. I didn't play long and I only played it because all my friends jumped onto it telling me it is a great game. Well it's a great game but it's not what I am looking for plus it was too easy.

I left after sometime the Burning Crusade was released, my highest level characrer was a 69 NE warrior.
