I won't deny that the Final Fantasy series has had some very good titles (Crystal Chronicles and the Tactics games stick out in my mind), I can't help but feel like they've really done what they can in terms gameplay. They can change the battle system, but it's already all been done so much that I feel as if they're getting old. XII was pretty good, lots of fun to play, but I would've been just as happy playing I or II, which tells me that they can only go so far with the games. Maybe a Final Fantasy (roman numeral) with real time battles like Crystal Chronicles with a more exploration-oriented world.

Isn't this kind of like asking when Nintendo will stop putting out Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games? No one complains (very much) about them doing it. Though I suppose gameplay has altered significantly between almost every game in those series, whereas Final Fantasy is still turn based action (which, in SE's credit, has gotten a lot more nuanced).

Anyway, they'll stop making them when they stop making money, which is about as unlikely as another Chrono game. Guess we'll have to wait till the universe ends.

But yes I figured we would get the gambit complaint and i'm sorry while the story, characters, setting may not have clicked with you combat is your own damn fault. At least your better than the guy not paying attention to the tutorial and losing in the tutorial battles of FFX. That was just sad.

Just want to echo klak's sentiments (bar the Gambit system and X-2 as despite how vapid it was the combat system was at least interesting) the whole game felt a little stale.

I've played all the "chronological" FF's and honestly found XII to be one of the most lacking (with IX and I.) I'm not saying it's a horrendous abortion not fit to bear the title but it was deffinatly boring and had quite poor character motivation/development.

Personally i quite like FF and i see no reason for it to ever stop, but think FF13 has taken what around five years imagine all the changes that would occur by the time we get to FF16 could be a decade and a half away

People will always like it.. I have a deep, seething hatred for Final Fantasy fans because their willing to buy the same exact game year after year. The same people who will buy Final Fantasy brand toliet paper if it has Cloud's face on it. The same people who claim that Final Fantasy 7 was the BEST GAME EVAR!!!one1!!, The same people who claim that they cried when Aeris dies, the same people who claim Sephiroth is the most amazing thing ever to be created.
