I don't really know it when it will end. Although I don't see their being another modern warfare game.

"When it stops making insane amounts of money." I am genuinely surprised that is not an option in your poll.

Activision is going to milk it for all they can just like how they did with the Guitar Hero serives.

I'd vote for roughly the same time as FIFA. Or, in other words:

But another Modern Warfare? I don't think so. They'll have to come up with something new or a new twist on something old.

When enough people get fatigued by the sheer amount of titles. A title every year... amounting to a slight redesign/ standalone expansion pack. People will catch on just how badly they've been screwed over eventually...

I don't think it will end for a long, long time.

But as far as when the series finally loses dominance, I am guessing about 2 or 3 years.

I am REALLY hoping that Treyarch is working on Future Warfare right now. Because that would get me to give it another shot.
Nonsense, everyone knows that sci-fi will alienate a large portion of CoD's fanbase. It has to stick to slow, incremental upgrades and near-future military tech at most.

Nobody knows how long it will take in exact years. But to mimmick the other posts, when it stops making Activision the money it does.

Seriously? With MW3 breaking day one sales records, MW4 is all but confirmed.

As with Guitar Hero, the series will continue as long as Activision see profit in it. Like Guitar Hero, Activision will simply reskin the same game until people stop buying it (13 games and counting). Although they at least seem to have learned that one release a year is a better prospect long term than hammering them out the door as fast as possible.

Given its current rate of sales, that's probably covered by 6+years/never.

I'm going to say 2023. It's going to have to get the stage Madden is at now, where the series starts getting worse each year, rather than just not getting better, before people stop buying it.

Not for a very long time.

I'm not sure I can keep wading through the months of "the new CoD is going to be amazing!" followed by the new CoD releasing, proceeding with more months of, "man this CoD fucking sucks, remember how good Modern Warfare was?", and then rinse-repeat.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Activision though, once CoD is finally laid to rest and WoW has bled too many subs to carry on.

There can be other call of duty games besides the modern warfare series. And it would be kind of hard to another MW4 because
They killed Makarov and Soap. There isn't really much loose ends to go after now.

And the transition from World War II to Modern didn't?

Then again, you may have a point that it will alienate those gun obsessed military marine people who just play these games to use the weapons they used in real life at some point.
That's the thing. And not just ex-soldiers. Alot of people treat it as the closest thing to real-life military service/real guns/etc. CoD gained more fans than it lost with the shift to Modern Warfare and its lowest-common-denominator appeal. The large portion of the mass-market who play it for that reason wouldn't play anything like Halo.
