Hunting isn't the most popular pastime in this day and age but I think a lot of people still do it. Some people seem to condone hunting for food while others don't condone it in any case. So what do you think? When (if ever) do you consider hunting acceptable?

EDIT: Just to clarify I only placed the option to choose hunting only for sport in the name of fairplay. I'm honestly not expecting many people to vote for hunting only for sport.

What's wrong with hunting?
It's not like animals are reluctant to kill other species, so why should we be?
Don't try to turn this on me by saying something like: "We are the more evolved species, we should not lower ourselves to their level."
That's grade A elitism right there.

Whenever, so long as you aren't hunting for endangered species.

I see hunting for food as ethically superior to raising animals for the sole purpose of food. At leas animals that are killed by hunters live normal lives.

Besides, what is wrong about hunting? The only way I'd accept someone claiming hunting to be wrong is if that person was a vegetarian, and even then, I don't think hunting would be the reason they went vegetarian.

If it's tasty, blow it's head off. It probably had a better, though a little more stressed, life than farm animals.

As long as there are plenty of the animal in question, I say go right ahead. I do think it should be regulated though, as we don't want another Passenger Pigeon incident.

Hunting, especially in regards to deer keep populations in check. I have no problem with hunting as long as the kill will be used well.

When done for food, or to reduce a dangerous, overgrown population of animals to safe levels for humans. Like wolves near habitation areas, moose/deer populations near major roads etc.

I live in a country where many people still have to hunt to survive. It's pretty accepted, though if you're going to do it for sport, you need licenses and registrations. I, personally, am cool with hunting at any time so long as the laws are followed and only the common to overpopulated animals are targeted.

Hunting is Alright as Long as the Animal isn't Endangered. Of Course, there should be rules so that people don't "Farm" (RPG reference) for Moose and Deer and the like, or kill Hundreds in 1 day.

Nothing wrong with it. Although, I find hunting useless unless there is overpopulation or if I get to eat what I kill.

I would actually respond with "Other than Dolphins, other animals only kill in self-defense, resources, and to eat."

Hunt all you want, so long as the animal isn't in danger of extinction, or a drastic reduction will hurt the food chain.

I think a common argument is that it's unnecessary because of modern agriculture and the fact that we farm so many animals.

I have to agree with this guy. At least hunted animals get to spend a few years free and aside from the part where we kill them we can't be held responsible for what happens to them in the wild.

As long as the hunter is not endangering a species nor screwing over the ecosystem I'm fine with it.

Wouldn't want to go hunting myself though I don't like guns or animals.

Hunting is acceptable when you've got a gun and your able to shoot something with it.

Always. Hunting within season is beneficial to the ecosystem, as it keeps animal populations under control. The motivation is irrelevant.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that certain methods of hunting are strictly prohibited if they are likely to result in an inhumane kill. This includes the banning of certain firearm calibers if they are considered underpowered for the game they are being used to hunt. Just because unethical hunters are a statistical certainty doesn't mean that hunting itself is an unethical practice.
