It seems everyone in this thread except Ultrajoe have join dates in 2009. I'd say we're all "noobs". The other forums I visit I've had memebership on for 5+ years.
This. I know I wouldn't consider someone anything other than a newbie until they'd been around for a looooong time. It is rather odd how many 2009 people are here though.

...and my vote is Meh. Most of you guys weren't around for the Yahtzee-inspired population explosion. That's when most people (including me) joined.
I actually wonder how many people started visiting the Escapist itself (not the forums) at that time? I know it's been a weekly thing for me since about ZP 5 or something, it's just that I've only now gotten around to making an account.
Same here. I've been watching Yahtzee's videos since Psychonauts but only recently joined the forums to discuss them. I was pleasantly surprised at how rich the gaming culture is here at the Escapist. The site itself has definitely improved with additions like Unskippable, GNN, Movie Bob, Rebecca Mayes, etc.

I've been coming to the site for months (admittedly mainly to watch ZP), but only recently decided to make an account. I don't see why there would be a problem with gaining new members, myself.

They came from outer space, at night when no one was looking. Secretly they have been replacing our old members with shapeshifters, slowly building up and readying their army for an invasion. I tell you, this is the end...

...Nah, they´re okay. It´s just confusing when I barely know the old folks, yet new ones keep coming in abundance. Some of them have even gone gonzo already. It´s madness.

Starting from when do you consider someone a newbie?
1-100 post.
What about people who joined the community long ago but rarely post? I've seen people who joined one week ago and already had 500 posts(I'm not making that up). Would those not be newbies anymore just because they're absolutely crazy and post in every thread?

I lurked for a long time before I joined, so I dunno if I'm really a newbie...surely it's a good thing, so long as they obey the rules?

I seem to have the lowest post count of this entire thread, does that make me the newbiest?
I've been coming to the escapist for over a year now, but I only registered one month ago, and I started posting yesterday.
Anyway, I've seen tons of guys in this thread alone who registered after I did and already have 100+.

EDIT: oops, wrote two months instead of one.

I remember seeing someone say that when I first joined up and that a lot of changes have been made. I was a forum newb myself, this being the first forum I ever joined and even though I didn't exactly follow all the rules at first, I turned out alright.

So in my opinion it is a good thing, we all have to start somewhere.
