I know halo isn't very well liked around here, but i for one like halo. Is Halo the best game ever? certainly not, but it was a good game with a solid multiplayer. I'm generally an avid PC gamer (i refuse to you the phrase "hardcore") I still just don't get why people hate it so much.

So do you like or dislike halo? please state why.
To me halo has always had a very epic quality to it which I've never felt from another game, its not the best game ever, but it is definately a 10 out of 10
10/10? I would say more of a 7/10, just because it got old after the first two. In fact, I really only liked it for forge.

Remove the word "not", and I'll agree with every word of this.

I suspect that the vast majority of Halo "hate" comes from:
-Sony fanboys
-Nintendo fanboys
-PC elitists who don't realize that there is in fact a PC version of Halo.
-Story snobs
-And people who have only played Halo 3.
This, my friend, is why you are only a paperboy. No, it couldn't get any less emasculating.

-Sony fanboys - Halo is a family of fanboyism itself, so of course they shall war.
-Nintendo fanboys - See above.
-PC elitists who don't realize that there is in fact a PC version of Halo. - Well, of course they know about it, but you seem to have this idea that they are all hugely desperate to get their lips around it's sexy hyper-masculine space marine baby seal. Right here, you are pushing your own ideals upon the reader, using your opinion as fact, implying that all the PC-goers are upset about not being able to access the game, or upset about the principle of an FPS game not being available to the PC.
-Story snobs - Welcome to The Escapist.
-And people who have only played Halo 3 - Once again, you are pushing your ideals on the reader.

Uhhh... I don't know the point on me giving you my personal thoughts, especially when they are completely irrelevant and don't offer any kind of closure, but it's the internet, right?

I've played a little Halo. Stock-standard to me. Seems like every other FPS on the market. But I guess it's fun but NOT worthy of a thread. I mean, fourteen giga-quintadrillion threads.
Well, there are fanboys of everything. Any similar art will have fanboy "wars". My point was that Halo hate comes majoratively from unreliable sources. The majority of love comes from unreliable sources too, so I guess it's a moot point. I just wanted to make a more substantive post than 'I agree with above quote'.
You've completely missed the point about PC elitists, so I guess I should elaborate: The most common complaint I hear about Halo is that the controls ruin it because the thumbstick system is so inaccurate. This is a ridiculous complaint as thumbstick controls are fine, and even if they weren't, there is a PC version that uses the acclaimed mouse-and-keyboard system.
Even if you are correct about the majority of Escapist users caring more about storytelling than gameplay (correct me if that's not what you were implying), that doesn't make me wrong.
It Escapes me as to how I'm 'pushing my ideals'. With the fifth point, I was merely stating that Halo 3 is not representative of Halo: Combat Evolved.

I'm sorry you didn't like it. I thought it was unique in plenty of ways, but apparently not enough to satisfy you, or atleast to raise your opinion of it above "okay".

I don't understand why the CoD fanboys get out hate free, I find them way more irritating than the halo ones ever were. Also don't add useless options to your poll, they are fucking stupid.

Halo 1: Revolutionary
Halo 2: Excellent
Halo 3: Decent game, but a step backwards from 2 in most ways, and totally eclipsed by CoD 4 as a shooter overall.

I don't hate Halo, I just don't like it very much. I thought the single player was good and had a solid storyline. The multiplayer mode, however, is shit. Weapon damage is random, meaning you can fire your spartan laser into someones face, not kill them, and them preceed to get oneshotted in the foot by their magnum (this has happened to me!) I also hate how everyone thinks it's hilarious to prtend to be Michael Jackson and pretend that they're molesting children by teabagging every corpse they see. Last but not least, I hate the fanboys. The people who think Halo is the best game ever and everything else is shit (You know who you are)! I don't think Halo deserves the high reviews and ratings it gets. I'd give it a six, maybe seven out of ten.

I dislike it because it's hyped up like shit and every 13-year-old prick loves and says it's better than Half Life 2 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or TF2 or some other more intelligent game. Also the story is stolen from everyone, Spartans look like Space Marines from WH40K, Marines look like the Imperial Guard from WH40K, the "Halo" is stolen from "Ringworld", the flood looks like headcrap zombiesa crossed with symbiont cults from WH40K. Also it's like "Babie's first FPS". I think Halo is just made to draw in 13-year old hyperactive pricks and tards which are the majority of people who BUY games these days. I'ts not a game, and it's not art, it's just a cash-in.

So... pretty much your main reason for strongly disliking it is that

a) Microsoft made it (ergo, it must suck)

and

b) Its popular (so it double sucks)

I'm not horribly missing the gist of your rant am I?

EDIT:

Because WH40K invented Soldiers in Powered Armour and under-equipped normal soldiers in space, right? And Half-Life invented zombies?

Do you even know who came up with the first space marine in fiction?

The first was the best, really really fun. Then the second was good too, with multiplayer but the single player wasn't really as good. Then three came along and I was so disapointed with the campaign and the multiplayer was the same as two which I played constantly so I got bored quick.

I have invented a fix for all of Halo's online problems! We segregate America's servers, and then the rest of the world can play without "Frat Boys" and "Nine year old Americans". There, all sorted. Call of Duty 4 was full of Americans too, but that had the good grace to give us a mute button.

As for the single player, I think the Flood were a great idea in the first one, but by two, it was essentially "We're on a new Halo, the plot is developing nicely... And the Flood have turned up!" By three, it had got to the stage of "We're on Earth, nowhere near the Flood, the plot is developing nicely... And the Flood have turned up!". For both of the second games, the introduction of the Flood was the turning point where the levels became crap and the enemies became rubbish. They probably should have just taken the time to model the Flood and put it into making a few new races for the Covenant, who are a genuinely interesting enemy, or even giving some to the UNSC - it'd be cool if a few aliens beyond the Elites joined them against the Covenant.

Alas, we got Flood, Flood and more Flood.

It's a good FPS, and a great co-op game to play online, but there's a lot of better games out there.

Its an okay game, alright! The question is why are we still talking about it and why do you care? Some people dont like it. Some people hate it. Deal with it. Go sit and whine in the corner with the JRPG fans.

i enjoyed the 1st aint played the second and thought the thirds multiplayer was very good unfortunately because it shifts thousand of xboxs and dollars every time something with halo involved no matter how shit (halo wars) so it is highly unlikely to change cause that might upset those who will buy anything with halo written on it

At times, it's fun when playing with some mates. I remember a time when we put the gravity low in the big sandy map and jumped around with Gravity hammers, trying to knock each other out of the sky.

I'm not a fan of it, but i'm not going to burn it at the stake.

Has to be said some of the best times ive had playing games with mates have been playing capture the flag in halo, its simple and done well, something thats not evident in alot of games coming out as of late. It didnt break any new ground, but it didnt aim to. It was just the launch title for the xbox to show exactly how much better than the ps2 it was. And it did that in spades. I quite liked the story, was like an arnie movie, one guy, lotsa guns, killing everything with a healthy mix of cheesey one liners. Its not the best game ever, but compared to most of the shite of its generation its well up there in the top 20 games released in the naughtys.

I think it's an 'ok' franchise. Not good, not bad. Just..well 'meh'. Ive played many FPS's that are far greater, more entertaining and much more compelling. I look at Halo as a bench mark, the very lowest quality of FPS I will buy. If it isnt better than Halo then I probably wont buy it...Unless it's in the bargain bin, you can't argue with a game for £5.

Halo threads never ever ever end well. Somebody's eventually going to say "Half Life is better!" and then someone will say "No it's not!" then the first person will go "Shutup, noob!" And therefore, flame war. TAKE COVER!!!

I love Halo. I think Halo is awesome.
Real life has the worst cover system....
But yeah Halo is a good game but it's multiplayer saves it.
