The egg.

Because for the first chicken to hatch, it had to have come from an egg (else it would not be a chicken).

The egg. Things have been hatching out of eggs since way before chickens were around.

My guess is the egg.
If we subscribe to evolution, we have very very very slight mutations within each generation of a species. Hence whatever microscopic differences created the first thing we call a chicken as opposed to whatever it was before, would have been birthed form an egg.

Well, obviously the egg, as it was laid by the very last mutation of the fatastisor from which all flight-less birds come from which looked a lot like a chicken but wasn't. It was 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent genetically different from the chickens. When it laid the egg the embryo was 100% pure chicken.

Now let us all forget about this stupid question forever.
