If money isn't a problem (I'm guessing it's not, since you can afford any console), I'd always go for upgrading your PC.
If you must have a console, then the PS3 is my favourite. Reliable, free online play, very ergonomic and comfortable controllers, better exclusive games.

If you aren't looking for a kind, loving, literate, intelligent online community, I'd say choose the Xbox 360 (however if my PC wasn't archaic I'd probably always be using it for gaming).

But yeah, I vote for PS3. Second option being the 360.

360 hands down. I own all three, and I can say without a doubt that the 360 is the best. Not only is it cheaper, it has way more good games than either the wii or ps3. Sure, LIVE does cost money, but it's totally worth it.
We could use some more info here. What types of games are you interested in? Will you be playing using online gaming? Have you tried any of the systems(like at a friends house or the store or something?). What do you think is the best part of a game? Etc.
There is no "best" system *cough*Unless your a fanboy*cough* So choice is based on what your personal preferences are. Having more info would help us help you help everyone to decide on the system. I know it's a hassle but it help put down another flamewar as well.

I won't degrade myself by arguing with someone about it, but I would suggest the 360. Never had a problem with it, and the new components are supposed to remove the RROD. The online costs money, but if your're old enough to play the games you should be old enough to afford the measly £40. (Not "you" as in "you", but in general) and the controllers are comfortable and practical. Games are good, but 360 has more exclusives.

I'd say 360, for the better library of games. Though if you want Monster Hunter, that's only on the PSP, with the exception of the original. However, the PSP versions only have local multiplayer. I know there are ways around this, but I'd wait for Monster Hunter Tri to release on the Wii next year.
Monster Hunter? PSP, PS2, or PS3 will be your best bet. I don't think it's out on a none Sony system yet.
