Poll: Which do you think is a better series Halo or Gears of War?

They are both good games In their particular genres, so It comes down to story, halo focuses on epic battles, Gears on gritty scrambled survival, both good, as for characters, eh, I like Baird and Cole, I like Forge and Johnson, both have some good, both have some bland, now finally it's down to mythos, and Halo just has more possibilities as It has a much larger, farther spanning backround. So while Gears can only go right or a little left, Halo can jump around. So Halo. Also I love Spartans and space warfare.

Tough call, but I'm gonna go with Gears because...well I don't really know why.

I've played both and have found both mediocre for different reasons. Each has a bonus; for example the covering system is nice in Gears but Halo doesn't rely on bullet-sinks to make the game more challenging.

If I must choose I'd go with Halo. Better weapons, better overall play, and their depiction of black people is far less offensive than Gears.

Halo. Despite being associated with it, Halo pretty handily avoids the gray and brown aesthetic maligned by many (myself included) in favor of a world with rather nice art direction. Also, it easily wins out in its story experience; say what you will about the actual plot, it knows how to cultivate an epic feeling, especially with its soundtrack.

i'm not saying it was bad, i'm saying it went downhill
personally i think Halo 1 and 2 were better
sure 3 was a great game, but it seemed a pointless move if they couldn't improve upon it
either way i'm just voicing opinion here, I'm aware i'm easily in the minority in prefering gears

Honestly, the only thing I found lacking in Halo 3 was the story (and Blood Gulch). I thought it had better level design and better gameplay refinement, but the story behind the levels felt rushed. However, I'd also say Forge Mode was good enough to make up for the rushed finale (The first thing I did in Halo 3 was throw a tank at my little brother...awesome)




Anyway, I tried to like Gears, but it just felt too clunky and slow at times. Even though Gears3 has some interesting design shifts (chief among them: Beast Mode), I'm still going with Halo on this one.

I understand what you mean but, it was not definitely not a pointless move. They kind of had to make halo 3 when they left us hanging after seeing halo 2's cliffhanger ending.

Despite the fact that I'm an FPS lover, I went with Gears. Gears is good because:
The music is amazing (but Halo's is also pretty good)
It doesn't take itself too seriously.
Marcus Fenix is like all the cheesy one liner quoting heroes ever made packed into a suit of armor and a loud voice.
YOU GET A CHAINSAW BAYONETT. ALMOST NOTHING IS THAT AWESOME.
The gore is so ridiculously over the top that it's funny.
The Locust are somewhat interesting antagonists.
It's fun.
And I think the most important thing is this:
There are many less annoying 13 year old idiots who still haven't hit puberty saying "Omg! Why'd you kill me? Gosh, get a life! OMG!"

Halo is okay, but I prefer Gears.

I'm sorry but the food nipple grunt beats this by lightyears. Plus Bungie actually pays attention to their community way more than Epic. Halo's story (including the books and other media) is more epic to me than Gears's.

What, you thought I was being serious with my choice? I don't care about the companies that make the game, the stories they have, or the fanbase behind 'em. I've enjoyed making fun of Gears' story much more than Halo, so I chose that.

Well, I'll have to go with gears of war. My reasoning? I haven't played any Gears of War games. I played Halo 1 though, and loathed it. Simple as that.

In terms of pure gameplay, I'd have to say Gears of War. Simply because its cover mechanic makes things a lot more interesting. However, Halo did a lot for console FPS games, so I'm not even sure that's a legitimate thing.

Artistically, Halo. Better story, better music, better plot, better setting, better concepts, better everything. Though I admit that the soundtrack to the first Gears of War was freaking amazing, but still doesn't hold a candle to Halo's score by Martin O'Donnell.

So since I value art in games more than gameplay, I'll say Halo. It's just good.

Yeah this is my stance too. Gears always delivers some great action heavy moments but Halo just has this charm to it that Gears always kind of lacked for me at least.
So overall I would say Halo.

but if you think about it halo and gears have almost identical base storys humanity is being attacked and getting its ass handed to it and a small group of elite warriors are the only hope they have

To me, Halo's characters, setting, and most importantly story, are boring as hell. In my eyes, the only thing Halo has going for it is the multilayer. Gears is a hilarious game and as many said, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Plus Horde mode is so fun and addicting. They have awesome bad guys, loads of gore and even freakin' chainsaws on their guns! They are both fun, but I am going with Gears on this one. However, Halo Reach looks promising.

well im big on third person shooters, and overall i enjoy the campaign more in both the gears games than halo.

but halo is fun as shit to hop on with a buddy and just smash on some aliens/other people.

so gears by just a little bit. they did copy "horde" mode recently (yes i know it had been invented before but it was clearly obvious they were taking that from gears 2 seeing its success on the xbox)
