Both are inferior card games to MTG in my opinion. However pokemon games are fun as hell so I vote Pokemon is cooler.

Wait, what was the question? Nerdier? Who cares? They're TCGs they are nerdy as hell. If he likes it so what?

This is is a really tough question. I mean, they are both nerdy in their own way. It's like...trying to compare apples to...pears. They are both similar, steams and coming off trees and often green or yellow, and have a similar texture and all, but they aren't exactly the same thing.

...that became very convoluted rather quickly...

Anyway, I voted Yu-Gi-Oh! for the express reason of that everyone in the show itself is a nerd. I mean, let's face it, everyone plays card games and nothing else. It's like...if Magic the Gathering had completely taken over the world and the world revolved around that single activity.

Yes, in Pokemon, they go around training, but that's the thing. Each person can do what they like with it. Pokemon may be pets or battlers, but most of the time, they aren't shut-ins.

I know, it's kind of splitting hairs, but it's hard. I must say, though, that I don't care. I'm a nerd because I like them both in their own way, though Yu-Gi-Oh! is probably closer to my heart for various reasons.

Yugioh is more nerdy... And seriously no Yugioh Abridged reference yet? I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed

Despite the shitty card game and the shitty anime I can still appreciate the Pokemon games. I can't say the same for anything from Yu-Gi Oh.

Yu-Gi-Oh because of the less widespread appeal. It's not quite as mainstream as Pokemon.

That being said, I love both of them to pieces. My current wallpaper is Yu-Gi-Oh related!

I think they are quite equal.
Though I think Star Trek cosplaying is still the epitaph of nerdiness.

I wear my apprentice geek badge proudly! Been a gamer for about 10 years and managed to stay at such a low level =P

I would say both are equally nerdy due to both being Serious business. (Yes, I enjoy both, and both of them need good strategy to win, unless you're against noobs)

I picked Yu-Gi-Oh, because if you take any creature out of Pokemon and put it in our world under my control, shit will go down, without anyone needing to consent to a card game first. Though the idea of summoning "Inferno" in the real world makes my skin tingle.

So me and my friend got into a heated discussion, because he won't stop playing Yu-Gi-Oh in the library, and when I complained to him he just said that at least he wasn't playing something like Pokemon, he said this because he knows I like it. So I was wondering what the community thought about this.
He doesn't think Pokemon is for nerds, he was just trying to insult you, because you were (from what I understand) an asshole.

Yu-Gi-Oh is easily nerdier but also better in my opinion. Mostly because of Yu-Gi-Oh abridged...

I always falt much nerdier talking about Yu-Gi-Oh than pokemon. Cards just seem nerdier than a video game. And I know that there are Yu-Gi-Oh video games, but they suck. Also, the TV series if fucking insane, and not in a good way. CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!!
Additional Observation: Ever notice that you can't learn to play Yu-Gi-Oh from watching the show?

I dunno, I'd like to say that both are equally nerdy, but that would mean I wouldn't have to choose between the two. I think when it comes down to it, Yu-Gi-Oh is probably nerdier. During it's golden age (the late 90's), Pokemon was so damn popular as an anime, a card game, and a gbc game, it was considered mainstream, not nerdy. I don't remember Yu-Gi-Oh having quite the same effect on our pop culture as Pokemon did.

Of course years later, I'm a university student and no nerd is playing Pokemon or Yi-Gi-Oh in the dining commons--it's Magic: The Gathering that's being played (always been and always will be from what I heard).

Pokemon is WAY less nerdy because of the universality. Go to any high school. I can guarantee the captain of the football team who has a million friends and has sex with 5 new girls a week will have at least a vague idea of who pikachu is, but will likely have no idea whatsoever about what you-gi-oh is.

Pokemon is pretty legitimate in my mind. Like if I see a friend playing Pokemon on their DS, and for the most part my friends are 25-28, I don't think I'd bat an eye.

If I saw a friend playing a Yu-Gi-Oh game, well, I'd have to give them a wedgie.

Is this two varieties on card games or the games pokemon? Because at the end of the day Pokemon is incredibly more mainstream. They're cute, adorable, yet powerful and serious. Pokemon is a beautiful balance between hardcore players and the mainstream audiences. If I can pick up chicks in a bar because I talk about pokemon, I highly deem it nerdy unless I'm in nerd-town havana, which I doubt, because I'm still not allowed to walk down the street in my darth vader outfit without being looked upon as a freak.
