Doubtless, toughest fem is Cmdr. Shepard.

Who else has the bal- err, ovaries to head butt a krogan, tell off the most most powerful political entities in the galaxy and finally take on a race of ancient super death machines? Yeah, no one.

Except maybe Duke Nukem, but he's a dude, so he's not relevant to this discussion.

You mean, "Who's the toughest?"

I'll go wth Chun Li. She is the strongest woman in the world.
Exactly, she tells us that! Why even debate? I'm putting my vote in for her.
And she still regularly gets her ass kicked by other female characters in the series.

My pick is Mona Sax (from Max Payne): She survives being shot in the head, shot some many more times, and stuff, then if you finish on the hardest difficulty, survives getting shot through the spine. Yes, I didn't spoiler that. Hah!
Also, ehs kills teh baed gujs and does afraid of Max die.
I guess some playful jokes don't translate well on the web...and what the hell happened to the last part of your sentence?! Before you criticize another person's choice make sure that you don't, well...

"Also, ehs kills teh baed gujs and does afraid of Max die." It burns my fingers just mimicking the stroke pattern that made it!

Besides, if you're equating toughness with durability (a common practice and an accurate one in several realms), how is my choice any less valid? You just rambled off ways in which Mona gets on the edge of death several times and in no way mention her qualities as a fighter while pointing out that Chun Li takes a lot of punishment, which appears to be a quality that you admire because you point it out for your pick, and accuse her of being a poor fighter.

In conclusion: you claim that chun li is a poor fighter and therefore is in no way tough because she must endure several ass-beatings. Secondly, you claim that Mona is tough because she withstands a lot of punishment but make no claim toward her ability to fight. You are evaluating the two characters in two conceptions of the word "tough" and mix them up when making your own support.

I guess I would just like some clarification, sorry for the mixup!

O rly?
Well, I didn't say Chun Li sucked. Just that if she was the strongest, she should probably kick more ass.
And doesn't toughness also mean the ability to withstand punishment? And Mona did kick a lot of ass, by the way. I just didn't take the thread seriously.
So... yer argument be invalid, I guess?

Not really. I didn't read it to begin with because it sounded like some stuck-up geek being superior.
Yes, I just insulted you. We can keep at it, or we can just leave this whole stupid business and do something that's worth doing.

Out of the list, I would go with Guilty Gear, easily.

The reason is characters like Baiken, Millia and Justice. Those characters are pretty tough and well designed without recurring to being overly sexual, half naked, ninja warrior women like DoA's Ayane or SC's Ivy.

I've always thought that Talim from Soul Calibur was the best, especially in Soul Calibar 2. Her weapons and moves were so fast and so deliciously brutal at times.

I could tell you didn't read it. I don't believe that it constitutes geeky-ness to argue a valid point respectively to someone else with which they disagree. And besides, this is The Escapist, it's nothing but geeks here anyway (I find it hard to believe you weren't prepared for that). I'm sorry that you feel so threatened that you decided to resort to insulting me instead of giving my ideas a chance against your own. Alright, we can drop it; you're right, it's better that way.

This is a measure of toughness, not speed or strength. Who can take the biggest beating and keep going? Who has the most grit?

Ehrgeiz means Tifa, Tifa has survived a supernova. Could Tao survive a supernova? I don't think she could (I'm being silly - I know Supernova just brings a character's HP into the red, it's nonfatal unless you only have less than 10 hp). In that DoA fancrossover she's shot and stabbed several times, and keeps fighting with several arrows stuck in her. She only keels over when she eventually bleeds out.
In a SC/Tekken game as a cameo character she could easily continue to hold her own as she is in Ehrgeiz. Probably be top teir thanks to her materia.
There's a Mugen version of her that could hold her own in a SF/GG game; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrBrh0JsGF8
And in a Halo game remember; she was a professional terrorist and as such probably has weapons training paired with her near superhuman strength, speed, stamina, etc, which while maybe not quite on par with a Spartan would be near as damnit.

I will agree that Talim is pretty rough, but seems to be more of the fragile Speedster, Cassandra on the other hand is hard to handle (getting better in the later series) but dose so much damage it makes up for the choppy move set. Lol then they gave her a low grab. Still nothing against Talim, she makes it to the list of characters i hate to fight against: Ivy, Nightmare, Sigfried, Talim, and (cheap played) Lizard man.

Since you DID mention Dead Fantasy, she lost to Hitomi. She didn't get beat, didn't get her ass handed to her, and it wasn't a curb stomp battle... she just lost to a more skill fighter. I kind of blame it on an over use of materia.

She lost one round to a fighter who wasn't hampering herself by overusing magic materia. Tifa had so much materia there was no way she was using Master materia, which meant her combat stats were severely reduced because that's what green and red materia does. Furthermore when she saw just how ineffective Fire was she should have stopped wasting mp on it, a scrub move, but she wasn't exactly Avalanche's tactical genius... When she was purged of them she was still willing to keep fighting Hitomi, but being interrupted means it wasn't possible to tell if she was stronger, faster, etc.

After said interruption she took a hell of a beating and kept going until she collapsed, killing several unnamed ninja before going down. I doubt Hitomi would have lasted as long if their positions were switched, with Hitomi was fighting Wutai ninja; she's not trained for that sort of thing, and doesn't have the experiance. Could Hitomi take a Ninja's head off without thinking twice? From what I've seen in the Tekken games I seriously doubt it.

Valid points though Hitomi is from DOA, and that ninja in white (Hayte AKA Ein) was trained along side Hitomi and its rumored that Hitomi bead him in DOA4. Poor Tifa couldn't touch him... that being said she did just go through a really tough battle with Hitomi and then there was that messed up ninja Zerg rush thing, i would like to see those two go at it again in a clean uninterrupted fight.
