What's all the fuss about FFVII? I prefer FFX. Aside from the awful voice actors; the story really gets to me.
It think that FF VII was the first FF game many really played. It was my first FF anyway.
But back to the topic at hand.

FF X. Loved the story and scenery. Only downside was the laughing scene.
*Shivers at the thought*
Yeah, I think you're right about FFVII. I'm not saying it's not good it's just not amazing.

Anyway, have you seen the Japanese version of the laughing scene? Tidus' voice sounds like a seagull getting strangled.

FF VI hands down. Loved the characters, loved Kefka and Ultros, the story was great and the twist halfway through was awesome. IV follows behind if for no other reason than Cid's beard.

Mind you I'm basing this off the GBA and DS ports respectively.

Not yet.
But a trip to Youtube looks like fun now.

FFIX is my favorite, with FFVIII as a close second.

VI, VII, and X were also great but I don't re-play them as often as the above two.

I'd have to say X, it was the 1st one I played seriously and to this day I still feel it had the best story/characters.

8 i believe because squaresoft had massive success with the 3D aspect of FF7 and capitalised on that by delivering FF8..it had a great storyline... and gunblades!... what more to like O_O?

I've only played 6,7,8 and 10 I've just started 3 on the DS. I chose 8 because Squall is such a sexy beast, also it has the best story of the all the Final Fantasy games I've played

FF IX for the story.

I loved the level up system of number FF VI

But the job system from FF V, simply brilliant.

So when they create a Final Fantasy with the story of IX, the level up system of VI and the job system of V, I will be able to die happily. :)

The best characters you say? I'll have to cross examine with my favorite

Tidus Rinoa

Wakka < Zell

Auron Selphie

Kimahri > Irvine

Seymour Ultemecia

The results say that it's a tie!

The best game ever would have: Squall, Yuna, Zell, Quistis, Rikku, Kimahri, Seifer and Sin

Nine. And I feel the need to tell anyone who thinks that those 'dark and moody' final fantasy games (7 and 8) are sophisticated and amazing when they're just character insertion wankfests for the angsty youths of their time that they could really do with some hot chocolate and a few hours on it.

not that they're bad games they play fine. they're just basic at best. Nine wins out just because it knew it was and embraced it with silliness galore

7 was my favorite because I had low expectations before I played it. I was introduced to Final Fantasy through the utter crap that was the Nintendo DS remake of the Japanese version of FF3. Because of this, I wasn't expecting much from 7, and I was pleasantly surprised. 7 exceeded my expectations beyond anything I could have imagined. Unlike 3, I could actually follow the story, the story wasn't generic, I could buy Phoenix Downs, I always knew what to do and where to go next, and I was actually able to sympathize with the villain and understand why he was evil.

For as much as I love 7, though, I also love 6. It's a very, very close runner-up. This is because I like Steampunk, and because:

Kefka is the only villain in Final Fantasy history to succeed at destroying the world.

I like Kefka because he reminds me of the Joker. Every time I read his dialog, I do it in Mark Hamill's voice. For those of you who don't know, Mark Hamill voiced the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.
