Definitely the witcher. It depends on what you're looking for though. What king of game do you want at the moment?

Well, what type of experience are you looking for? What types of games do you prefer the most? Did you play the first two Dead Space games (hopefully a silly question)?

I've never played Alan Wake, but I can give my impressions of the other three.

Dead Space 3 opens in a pretty silly manner, gets some pretty nice steam going about 2 hours in until about six-ten hours depending on how much exploration and side-missions you do, then starts stumbling again once you actually land on the planet that will become the main location for the rest of the game. Also it blocks off all of Carver's character progression to the Co-Op missions apparently, and there's no AI for those missions since he never accompanies you in other sections of a solo game, so you can't play them in a single-player game, which will infuriate you if you're a completionist because collectibles are hidden in the Co-Op missions too. Still, it was a pretty fun game, and the weapon-creation mechanic was absolutely fantastic. If they had still let you use four weapons along with strapping weapons together, I probably would've liked it the most in the franchise.

Metro 2033 pissed me off so much that it's one of the few games I rage-quit and uninstalled from my PC. It has some of the worst implementation of stealth mechanics I've ever seen in a game that ostensibly is trying to be stealth-focused, because going all Rambo is likely to end with you dead after four or five seconds. And I didn't even make it to the infamous amoeba portion of the game which is usually what people talk about when they're angry at it.

The Witcher 2 is a fantastic Action-WRPG, but it's got rather slow pacing and an incredibly wonky difficulty curve that makes the opening a two-story brick wall without footholds that you have to scale which then plateaus off for the second Act. But it's got really good writing, great philosophy and politics, and doesn't try to glorify how 'dark' or 'edgy' it is like the first game did.

Well i thought Metro 2033 is a straight up action horror FPS ? Am not really a big fan of stealth games so if Metro 2033 employs too much of stealth i will have to pass.
As for Witcher 2 just how difficult are the opening act ? Does the game have difficulty options ?

I have only played Alan Wake out of those choices, and I do not recommend it :(
Why ? I am very interested in Alan Wake as it seems to have a great story and great atmosphere. what did you not like about the game ?

Eh... you could maybe get through it going the action route, but not the way I managed it. I was stuck in an apocalypse-Nazi camp section pretty early on because you get surrounded by turret placements and far more enemies than you can actually take head-on unless you're Superman.

I always get told I was playing it wrong, but a headshot from a silenced pistol should still kill a guy, and even if it takes two shots if I do them in close enough succession it shouldn't mean every other enemy in the area knows exactly where I am. -_-

As for Witcher 2 just how difficult are the opening act ? Does the game have difficulty options ?
Well, I heard one of the patches re-tooled the difficulty of the opening a little bit, and it does have plenty of difficulty options, but playing on Normal (pre-patch, mind) still kicked my ass back and forth.

What do you want to play?

I played Alan Wake. If you have it and the DLCs and expansion, it's definitely worth a look, if you can cope with the camera and shooty periods.

Witcher 2 will take some time to play and you'll need at least 2 playthroughs to get everything. It's a great game but get ready to invest some time in it. I also disliked the combat, but that was just me.

The Witcher 2 isn't too hard in the beginning on normal. You just need to know that when you see a shield guy block him then attack.

out of the two games I played, I would recommend the Witcher 2. I Like stealth games but the stealth in metro sucked.

I haven't played any of the others so I can only recommend The Witcher 2. It's a great game and well worth all the accolades it has gotten. You shan't be disappointed, particularly if you played the first one.

The Witcher 2 is the best WRPG of all times in my book.
-The story is very interesting and not as generic "go save the world from evil dragons" as most wrpg.
-It features a cast of many very cool characters.
-The choices you make have actual consequences down the line and most of them are grey instead of black and white.
-The combat might have a steep learning curve but its very fun and has, with magic signs, bombs, traps and potions, enough depth to keep you entertained and challenged.
-It looks fantastic (pc version at least).

Its not so hard, you just have to get the hang of it and the game doesn't hold your hand. You have to move a lot during combat and make extensive use of dodging.
Yes the game has different difficulty options.

Well here is my super awesome analysis of each game!

Dead Space 3
Didn't play it. I played through half of DS1 and thought it was kind of painfully boring. I imagine if you played through 1 & 2 that you'd like 3 but I'm not going to be much use here.

The Witcher 2
I freaking wanted to like this game but I did not like it. The "deep and difficult" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.403641-What-games-have-you-given-up-on-due-to-difficulty#16689584] fighting system everyone gushes about is difficult because it's bullshit. It was not uncommon for me to start a fight with 1/4 of my health gone because Geralt takes a fucking year to pull out his sword, giving the enemy plenty of time to kick your ass before you can even think about fighting back. However, it is still highly touted as awesome so maybe it's just me...

Alan Wake
Did you play Alpha Protocol because this is the same thing I say about that game. It's a great game with some shoddy execution that really hurts it. If you can forgive the clunky fighting and the weird spikes of difficulty, this is a great game. I would also strongly recommend "American Nightmare", which is one of the DLC episodes for Alan Wake.

Metro 2033
See Alan Wake. Another gem of a shooter if you can forgive some of it's major flaws. The stealth is kind of wonky and the shooting is just kind of average. However, the setting and story gives it some nice bonus points and made it a strong recommendation from me from the FPS genre.

Yes the game has different difficulty options.
What are the difference between the various editions of witcher 2 ? normal and enhanced edition and assassin of kings ?

"Assassins of Kings" is the subtitle, the game is called "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings".
When the game was released for the Xbox, they did so as the enhanced edition, it includes all DLC, Patches and bonuscontet, additionally they added a few cutscenes and side quests. Owners of the PC Version could download it for free. I think you will always get the Enhanced Edition now, since its the only one available for Xbox and the old PC version was upgraded.

P.S.: Fair warning, if you did not play The Witcher (the first game) some of the background lore might get confusing, although the games main storys are only very very loosly conected. But the game makes journal entrys for every major(ish) character, place and event that get mentioned.

Depends on what you want:

Loved Alan Wake. Sure the combat gets a little meh, but the story is amazing.

Witcher takes some dedication and tons of time. Not the most "casual" of the three.

Metro: I have nothing to say about this

I also highly recommend Alan Wake or Metro 2033, if forced to choose, I would take death as I don't think I could choose. Alan Wake has one of the best stories I have played, and Metro also has a really good story, but the game didn't shine till I could play in Ranger mode. Anyway, either of those two and you will have a great time, well till amoebas when you play Metro 2033, then you are going to have a bad time.

I would have recommended Dead Space, but seeing as you planned on playing single player, save it for later. I'd go with the Witcher, it's a little intimidating, but give it a go.

My ranking goes as follows:

1) Witcher 2
I don't know what kind of gamer you are, but be warned this game doesn't hold your hand as much as others, combat takes getting used to but is very rewarding once mastered. Story, gameplay, presentation/graphics and RPG elements all stellar, I will replay this game too for other story angles. A masterpiece for me. Intro might take a bit of motivation though, it's not forgiving.

2) Metro 2033
An experience that needs to be lived. Fantastic atmosphere, wonderfully created environment that is really oppressive and makes you 'feel' what the characters are going through. Gunplay is excellent as well, forces you to use strategies that other games don't. Might also be because ammo is scarce, and you really have to pick your shots. Story is great.

3) Dead Space 3
If you haven't played the first two, then do so first: this game does a lot wrong, but is still a fun romp through. The story, characters, and main villain just didn't make me give a slightest crap about them. Fighting is a bit unbalanced and cheaper compared to previous ones, but still entertaining. Almost zero horror element. A few annoying sections too, like rappelling, but they're easy enough. I disliked weapon crafting, but this varies from person to person.

4) Alan Wake
Only game out of the 4 that I actually didn't finish, despite the brilliant writing. Combat and gameplay just put me off, found it repetitive and frustrating. And I love survival horror, so that's all I can say having not finished it. General opinion varies strongly from this though, so keep that in mind.

The Witcher 2.

One of my favorite RPGs. You'll love it.

Second would be Metro 2033 awesome game.
