I feel bad for JRPG's now. Perhaps before playing them, one should consider what the "J" means in the moniker. It stocks itself with a different rational, culture, and feel. I'm not saying their aren't shitters. But what genre doesn't have both gems and flops? :p Whatever.

My least favorite has to be sport titles. They just seem so flippant. Nothing to gain, no fun to be had, and no point to be seen. Not that their aren't those enjoyable. I just get tired of seeing "Random Sport [Insert Number of Year, Edition, Dick Size Here]" every time.

You realize this is a pointless question, right?

The answer is "whichever genre I don't like." After all, if that genre had any good games, I would like it, right?

I find this an interesting topic. We all can acknowledge that terrible games have come out over the years *coughfable2cough*...excuse me. But I'd like to hear your opinion on the genre that has the WORST games. For me its definately the Racing genre.

Tons of half ass games come out to try to compte with the big boys (Forza and GT) but many are just flat out shitty

Going to assume you missed the 3 and put a 2, because what 2 learned from in 1 and improved on, 3 did away with presumably because Molyneux doesn't really understand why his games sell. If in fact you did mean 2 then I guess I proved that we don't in fact all acknowledge it as crap.

I don't know that I could rightly say any one genre has more bad games than another. I kind of agree on JRPGs in a way, because it seems like in some games the combat is the same as it's been since Final Fantasy 1 and I just don't get interested. But on the flipside I can't write them all off since I enjoy some of them.

Honestly I do dislike sports, racing and fighting games. I don't necessarily think they're bad, but it seems like a lot of the time they suffer from what many people accuse the FPS genre of suffering from; remaking games with a different tileset and upping the graphics and selling it for 60$ a pop. I can't judge them individually, as I'm sure some games do things interestingly, but it really seems like a lot of them are just remakes.

I know some racing games have a function where the goal is not in fact to reach a certain point before other vehicles but to cause as much damage as possible, which sounds like fun, so as I said before, not writing them all off.
Nope, heck I should of just flat out put it in bold and red text. Fable 1 (The Lost Chapters is the one I played) is head over tails better than Fable 2 (and after 2 I didn't bother getting 3). Fable 1 had more magic, actually had armor, better quests (not kind you use your dog to dig up treasure?), BOSSES, a more interesting story with better characters and a more diverse world.

Other than FFXIII, Fable 2 was he biggest disappointment to me EVER. I didn't even mention the 5-6 hour story mode or the terrible coop, the nonexistence of a boss, or even the fact that the game is stupidly easy. I beat it in on my first playthrough in 4 hours and did not die. Later on I found out on the internet that you CAN'T die.

*bleep* that *bleep* game

Missing poll is missing is misleading.

OT: Sports

I'm sorry but they are just glorified roster updates for $60 a year.
Not my fault. It had everything, even an other option. The Escapist decided to eat it though during the thread making process.

JRPGS, Sports, and Racing for all of the reasons others have already stated. There is just no innovation in any of them really...once the genres start proving me wrong, maybe I'll try my hand at them again.

Lol, those are legitimate reasons, I admit. I had some trouble with Fable 1 because it always felt a little vague, but at the same time the fact that you never really understand everything was something that made it interesting, whereas in Fable 2 everything is displayed to you almost immediately. I also agree Fable 2 was immensely easy, Fable 1 was harder but I still found it immensely easy if I abused the shield spell, I had maxed all my spells and abilities before I left the Hobbe Cave.

Overall I think I enjoyed Fable 2 more mostly because of its length but I do see what you mean now.

No I disagree there is no ONE genre that has to deal with these problems. ALL genres have for every 2 or 3 great top titles indeed there are 15 others the least. And of those 15 [the least] about 5 might yes be quite decent and pretty nice really. Those 5 might actually try to break the mold a bit and add something new if it works or not is a second thing.

Remember for instance the street/illegal racing games hype with NFS: Underground, Underground 2, Most Wanted, Carbon, Undercover. One could say this was one of the big daddy series. One of the big grand fathers and what did we get? Juiced, Juiced 2. But even Rockstar had its own Street Racing game. Now I played those rockstar games and you know they are not bad not bad at all. But yes I am tired of that whole illegal street racing scene.

Still I don't say that racing has the worst games in its genre oh no oh no!

I also could say JRPG, you know why! I haven't bought the last two final fantasies and the other JRPG's seem to stuck in their own pattern that buying title 4 of a series really is like erm... playing the game you already own. With tiny upgrades...

And yes I am not going to say that JRPG's have the worst no..the whole of JRPG is a bit in a rut right now. Yes a few titles do decent but so many fail! But that has nothing to do with the quality of the game but more the market. The market has changed, it seems that people want it different then what the usual JRPG can offer you. And so they move on!

The games on themself are pretty good done if not stuck in a rut and quite allot the same like their past brethen.

You know what I like? Games that really try to break the mold not all do it right but at least it is refreshing :)

I do not hold a grudge against any game in the end. Not even to those that bored me... I just stopped playing them and moved on. Guess that is the best advice when you feel stuck in a rut!

I think that FPS is not really a genre, more a class since puzzle games like Portal and Oblivion can fall under that definition as well. All it says that you play in first person and have a long range attack/affect of some sort, even if it is expected to be a action title. so i will have to say FPS Action Games. This is probably biased though since FPS action titles are so heavily marketed compared to the horror, racing, and other genres.

RPG, both W and J. Bad WRPG's tend to be horribly clunky messes with control schemes that stretch finger muscles. The sort of things that would probably break a 360 controller. For example: Anything by Richard "Lord British" Garriot.
A bad JRPG tends to be linear clip-clopping down a hallway then letting AI do the turn-based fighting, and has a story told through the medium of several phone books worth of text. For example: FF13. (Only FF I've played, not a good first impression.)

Another one would be the stealth genre, as there are no good stealth games except Hitman and Sly Cooper. There are good stealth sections of other games, but no other good stealth-based games (that I've played)

MMORPGs, just "meh" in my opinion. I also hate this "Lets go MMO" trend happening lately... no KOTOR 3 and no new Bungie IP (If it will be an MMO).

JRPGs are also dying, my favourite 3 this gen are TWEWY, Persona 4 and Lost Odyssey if you exclude the pokemon games, the rest have been mediocre. Don't even get me started on FFXIII...

I also find it funny how people are saying sports games for such silly reasons ;).

NeutralDrow is right though... this thread is just whatever genre you don't like.

Racing followed by FPS.

I'm surprised by all the Jrpg votes...I've had an awesome time with them and still am. It's funny how them being the same thing is bad when that is infinitely truer for racers and FPSs and the reason I list them, Jrpgs may share a few common things but like with every grand thing it's all in the execution.
