I think Lupin and Tonks because so little emphasis was put on it, oddly enough. It happened so fast, and with so little fanfare, that it took me a minute to process what just happened before reading any more.

Looks like my vote helped Snape sneak into first place :) But yeah, it was Snape for me; he's my favourite character of the entire series and he probably rates in my top 10 fictional characters ever so his death was really moving for me. Also he's played by Alan Rickman in the films who nails the role completely.

The more I think about it the more I'm considering Snape's death even more heartbreaking. 4 people voted Voldemort, looks like we have some death eaters on the forum!

I'm going with Tonks. I liked her, and she just seemed so sad for much of the time you knew her, and then when she's happy: BAM! Death comes knocking with a super sledge.

Cedric Diggory. Why? Because he was the first student to die, that was where shit got real.

Coming in close on a shared second are Snape and Fred. Poor Fred, sometimes i think his death was just thrown in for random tragedy.

As someone above me said; A lot of the deaths in the last book just seemed pointless.

I voted Dobby, although I did have a dilemma choosing him with Snape and Dumbledore on the line. But I chose Dobby, due to his simple moral good, unlike Snape & D. who each had shades of grey.

I can't say I felt Alan Rickman's death scene well, he played the rest of the part brilliantly throughout the whole series, but I felt that might've been his weakest bit. Although Dumbledore too had it poor as well.
The books did a much better job than the films did. Personally I would recommend the Harry Potter series just for Snape as a character.

In retrospect though maybe I should've chosen Voldemort/Harry. If neither of those characters had died then the series probably would've continued :D

It's a toss up between Sirius and Snape. Sirus was just an all around good person and lovable, but Snape really had a very difficult life, watching the love of his life fall for his worst enemy and being loathed by his peers because he can't afford to tell them the truth.

I was relieved when Snape died and was vindicated.

I was actually sad when Dobby died.

It's a book series, none of them did. Though the Owl particularly seemed pointless, as did most of the ones in the last book.
When the rest died, it was like, really? Come on now JK. Be serious.

Fred Weasley for me, its very cruel considering he is one half of a pair, and George would likely find it harder than most who lost someone since it would be like losing half your body to him.
Plus killing half of the main source of comic relief is kinda horrible to.
Wait, Fred died? No! NO! That sucks! I never planned to watch all the movies, and then I learn that almost half the characters die! But I never heard the Fred died!

I can relate to Harry in the case of Fred's death. I have a friend who's older brother, also a friend, was murdered a year ago by some chicken-shit pansy. What makes it worse is that his daughter turned one at the end of the month he was killed.

I am offended that neither Voldemort nor Hedwig is on this list. You should be ashamed.
And now...

The way Snape killed Dumbledore was so shocking because of Snape's lack of emotion, except maybe a touch of grief.

I really couldn't believe it when Sirius died. He was one of my favourite characters and to have him killed at the end of the book all because of a trap just made me sad.

Snape also. He's increadibly well done throughout the books and the way you find out that he's made so many sacrafices over the years for Harry makes you truly respect and feel sorry for him. Having recently watched the film just reaffirmed this for me.

Erm...Voldemort is on the list...and there are only 8 spaces I didn't include Hedwig because he's not really a character.

Too difficult to choose. So I'm going to bring up a random point:

Did Lavender Brown seriously die in the last movie? Because I know she didn't die in the book, because while in the book the cannibal asshole was about to eat her Hermione did manage to curse him before he took a bite, and JK Rowling specifically mentioned that Lavender was "Feebly stirring", which isn't dead. But if she died in the movie, then that would mean the director misread that part of the book, and that would pretty much prove my theory that the last movie was so terrible because by that point everybody had stopped caring about the books and simply wanted to cash in a check.
