Poll: Which is worse: Rape or Murder?

This is a serious and no doubt contentious topic, but I think the answer is interesting enough to talk about. Though please, keep it clean.

Ultimately, both acts are against one's will. Murder you could argue is worse because ultimately you are dead afterwards. But Rape is also generally tortuous and prolonged, and while you live, it is often a very painful existence. Also, I would imagine the emotional damage would be not insignificant.

So what do you think? Please backup your reasons, I'm sure it'll be interesting.

Murder. Cause you can always recover from rape, long as you survive.
Not saying its easy or anything, but you just plain cant recover from being dead in the non DnD world.

Edit: Thats not to say EVERY murder is worse than EVERY rape, but if we talk worse case scenario...

Rape. They both have horrible effects and are both awful things but there is never any justified reason for rape. There are a few reasons for killing someone but really what reason is there for rape?

You can get counseling for rape, not for murder.
You can confront the rapist and get closure, you cannot confront you killer.
There is life and happiness after rape, perhaps it may be limited, but there is nothing (in my mind) after death.

I put them in the same category.

Murder: The forceful taking of one's life. You end them, there and then. You destroy the flame of life they contain, destroying all possible futures that that person had. Could have been the savior of the world, destroyer of faith, or something more mundane. You destroy the future when you murder someone.

Rape: The forcing of sex upon someone when non-consent was applied. You irrevocably change a person through rape. Be it a man raping another man or a woman, or a woman raping another woman or a man. You damage their sense of self and personal security. You alter their mindset, make them a little less whole, and remove a part of them. You destroy the present when you rape someone.

So to me, both are horrible experiences that I place together on the things a human must not do to another.

What's worse is someone being raped to death, but seriously, murder is probably worse. When someone is dead, they're gone forever. Rape can be forgiven and the person is still there.

Both of the are equal in my eyes... that is, If you don't do both. If It's rape and murder, then it's far better, then Murder then Rape. It's all base on the opinion of one man influenced by the society he live in, making this a rather pointless question.

Murder has more consequences and does completely end a life, so one would think it's worse. However, there are justifiable murders. There has never been a justifiable rape.

It's fundamentally inhuman, which makes it very unlikely that the perpetrator can ever be rehabilitated.

I don't think there's a clear answer, really.

you cant get support and therapy and eventually get over a murder like you can rape so yeah i think murder is much worse.

Murder is worse. If you feel like death would be better than living after being raped, you still have the choice to end your own life. But if you get murdered you have no options left open for you.

Murder can have some kind of justification behind it, while rape really can't.
Regardless, murder still involves ending somebody's life before their time, so I believe that's worse overall.

"Although it may be accompanied by another crime, rape by definition does not include the death of or even the serious injury to another person."

Both are horrendous crimes, in my opinion, but murder does take a life.

From a psychological and societal standpoint, rape does much more damage than murder. Rape and molestation effect mental development and start a chain reaction of intimacy and relationship problems that can span many generations. Women who are raped and don't seek treatment remain victims, and are much more likely to be raped, with their instinct to freeze up when someone is touching them inappropriately. These women will most likely pick abusive men to be in relationships with, and these abusive men will abuse their children who will then be more likely to choose abusive partners, and so on...

So while murder is tragic, it ends with the one life lost. Rape is one of many forms of abuse a young girl can be damaged by in here development which can send her on a devastating spiral.
Plus the chances of pregnancy, STDs, and so on.
