I prefer the gameplay/graphics of 2 but the character/settings of 1.
Almost completely agree. I do think that L4d2 has some amazing levels too (if that goes under setting).

Left4Dead distinctly lacks the necessary volume of Ellis to be as awesome as the sequel.
Plus, the passing adds Zoey, and Ellis gets a crush. :D
wait, what? That sounds awesome. Also, I need to play L4D2 tonight. I'm drunk, and for some weird reason that means my accuracy and reactions are at their peak (in video games. I'm not willing to test this with real weapons, though I do have both real weapons and much alcohol).
I know exactly what you mean. I did that once at a party in Call of Duty.

But yeah, as soon as Ellis sees Zoey he develops a crush on her and he's really funny about it. He starts asking Coach if coaches can marry people.

Tough choice, I prefer the original for playing through a campaign with friends, but in the first month of L4D2's release I managed to get at least 3/4's of the hours that I had plugged into the original over a year playing versus.

Have to hand it to the original though, I actually enjoyed the characters and dialogue in the first, compared to the "hyuk im a hick" or "I want some cheesebur-FOOTBALL" of the second.

L4D2. I can't go back to the original, even though I love it's cast more. The balance changes and gameplay tweaks far outweigh any urge to play the old game. Plus all the old levels have been ported into the sequel anyway.

Gameplay-wise, the second is definately better with the new specials preventing you from hugging.
All the artsy prizes go to the first, which got everything about the zombie theme just about perfect.

I prefer the setting, audio, characters and mechanics of the first game.
I like the new infected and the scavenge game type from Left 4 Dead 2, so overall I like Left 4 Dead.

First one. It's the raw diamond, like the Star Wars sequels.
L4D2 is good, but it's over-choreographed and suffers from the crisp-packet of doom.

Crisp-packet of doom.(n): A slightly raised piece of ground, near-invisible to the naked eye which blocks the trajectory of any objects attempting to pass through it.
See also: chest-high walls, chainlink fences.

I always find that this is a problem with sequels which are technically superior but don't have the novelty factor which increases the enjoyment of the first game. Assassin's Creed is a perfect example. The first game will always be remembered more fondly by me because I had never played anything like it before. Whereas the second game had many improvements, it didn't 'wow' me as much as the first.

I think it's the same for L4D. L4D2 is the superior game technically but because L4D1 was the first game that gave me the chance to survive the zompocalypse with my friends, it will always be my favourite.

Right now, neither. I like the maps, characters, and pretty much everything else about the first one more. Second, well... the sniper rifle is nice... Second is just kinda meh, and the first one is dead to me now that every single fucking server I go into has some stupid ass mod on it...
