Poll: Which Model of "Xbox 360" is Best?

FYI the Core is the predecessor to the Arcade: the basic package, no hard drive, no bells and whistles.

It's been very, very quiet in the report front regarding the Slim RRoDs. However, if you can get an Elite + wireless adaptor (if you need it) for much less, go with that.

Even if you don't want to install your games (which is advised by the way: easiest way to prevent scratched discs) then you'll want a hard drive for Arcade or demo downloads.

If noise is a deal-breaker, it's only noticeable when you boot up a game (if you install games to HDD). It's silent while you play. The 360 doesn't get hot either that way.

if you don't care about sound then dont bother with the more expensive options. If you use discs not the hard drive and are only using it for gaming then get a core and save money

the thing is I'd rather have a more reliable model with a one year warranty (the slim) then a slightly less reliable model with a one month warranty AND I'd have to get wi-fi for it

(fyi, we don't have wi-fi now, but we're getting it next month for CPU/360/Wii/DS)

BACK TO POINT: Which is the best and why?

250GB Slim.

It has things built into it that the other models will make you pay extra for (wireless internet, big HDD). It also seems to have upgraded cooling over the old 360, I've only had it amonth, so lon gterm reliability is still slightly up in the air. I'm expecting it to be more survivable than the old model though.

Some of the media centre stuff on my SlimJim is quite nice as well, I'm impressed with it.

Is it not only 200? That's what I would have had to pay for mine if I actually had to pay for it.

OT: The 250GB Slim works well for me. Quiet, which is always nice, though not necessary. Big hard drive and wi-fi come with, so you're sorted in terms of accessories. Though, you either need to buy a special HDMI cable for microsoft or they're just plain not supported, which would suck if I had an HDMI compatible TV. Everything else has worked out fine since I got it though.

Yes, it'll totally destroy your discs rather than just lightly scratching. That's what's known so far, who knows about what will reveal itself over the next 6-12 months.

Are there any reports of the Slim getting a RROD?

No, because they took out the LEDs that produce the red ring. Now instead it produces a red dot and it's officially that the system is shutting itself off to protect against overheating. The design flaw that eventually causes it (faulty X clamps) is still present in the slim though. Do not buy any time soon. What Microsoft did is very, very, questionable.

however I will admit I don't like Bill Gates... just more games I want are on 360 then PS3

Can't blame you, the latest 360 brings the big hard drive, inbuilt wireless and hot black funk of PS3. Only downside is Xbox live subscription (and no blu-ray)

There are 2 Xboxes in my household. An Elite, we got it when they were first released and a Super Elite. Both run fine. I personally wouldn't get the Slim, I just don't like the way it looks, fair enough it has Wi-Fi and doesn't Red Ring but both machines we have have been reliable enough. I don't think anyone could say which is best unless there's someone who has owned all versions of the console, otherwise, look at the specs and see which is best for you. Having said that, I'd recommend anything from anything from Elite to Slim.

I'm more into single player anyways so XBL Gold isn't a problem

Destroys as in deeply gouges them if you slightly move it. You might think that it won't come up, but all you need is friends coming over, or forgetting something, or a kid/pet to bump into it, or parents being dense, or any other number of things to happen to irreperably damage the discs. And this was just what was discovered on launch day. People are already reporting the same kinds of hardware failure they had with old 360s despite the reduction in warranty.

Destroys as in deeply gouges them if you slightly move it. Ya know what's funny though. People actually blame the user instead of the XBOX when it scratches discs. People say "well, don't move your XBOX while it is running".

That's all fine and dandy but moving my PS1, PS2, Gamecube and Wii doesn't scratch discs. I can't speak for the PS3 though. People have given Microsoft so many breaks this gen, it blows my mind.

BUT!

I probably won't have that problem due to it's placement (no I'm not being full of myself I really have everything super neat and tidy for gameing systems and out of "trip" reach)

the ONLY time I ever had something happen to a game was my Wii scratched a disk when it fell over upside down during a 6.5 earthquake on the epicenter
