Title says it all. Of all the consoles released by Nintendo over the years, which would you say had the best library of games. Please give examples if you want.

Probably the SNES as it's the last Nintendo console to have really good 3rd party support. You only have to scroll through this list to see how many clssic games that system had

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_games

Later Nintendo consoles relied more and more on 1st and 2nd party games and there's been some fantastic games on those systems but they can't match the SNES library

Like the PS2, the SNES had way too many games for the console not to have a vast quantity of good ones.

I think 3DS at least wins out for the best current Nintendo console. It even has N64 remakes (Star Fox, OOT, MM). And remakes of Pokemon Gen 3. GBA would be my other choice for best Nintendo console. Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green, Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 1-6, Super Mario Advance 1-4 (which are remakes of Yoshi's Island, SMB3, SMW, SMB2), Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Misson (Remake of original Metroid), F-Zero GP Legend, F-Zero Maximum Velocity, Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, Golden Sun 1&2, Megaman Battle Network 1-6, Street Fighter, Breath of Fire 1&2, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow, I could go on.

That's a really hard question. The SNES houses my favorite game of all time (Megaman X), but overall, I'm gonna have to say N64. It's library of amazing games is extensive.

Starfox 64
Megaman Legends
Rogue Squadron
Pokemon Puzzle League
Smash Bros.
Donkey Kong 64

And those are just the ones I personally like.

Yeah, I'd say SNES. I mean the N64 still did reasonably in terms of good games, but it's library was largely held up by Nintendo itself, and Rare. (2nd party dev at the time)

It's tough to even name that many good snes games that weren't from those two...

No idea, as I was too young to enjoy the SNES and NES to their full potential I have to go from the N64 upwards...
No idea to be honest, I'd like to say the GameCube, because it had loads of games I played, when I was as active gaming as I most likely ever will be. Then again the Wii has all the Wii and gameCube games with backwards compability, so counting it like that the Wii is easily the best one. But I am ejoying my WiiU a lot, and it's Eshop is growing in quantity and quality all the time.

But I'll stay with my first answer... No idea...

Easily the SNES. That console library always kept me busy back in then, and there are still some games I need to play. I also remember walking into the video store and being amazed how many choices there were, picking at random I found many of those classics, plus Super Metroid which I got real cheap.

Gamecube had a very solid library.

SNES was my first system back in the day. Had a ton of games but for every Kirby Superstar there were at least fifty Bart's Nightmare.

I still have nightmares about that game. The phrase, "hey dude." haunts my dreams.

I going to cheat, and cheat hard. Just wanted to preface this post.

I'm going with the WiiU. It's got some impressive titles of its own, its backwards compatible with the Wii, the Virtual Console is populated or being populated with the best games Nintendo can get from consoles and handhelds that are even older.

Granted, their old game library needs to get bigger in a hurry, but it shows promise. Heck, pretty sure I've seen a DS game there.

SNES hands down. I knew that and I hasn't even born when it was around.

If the 3DS was an option (and it included its backwards compatibility) then I'd go for that.

I grew up with a NES and later on I had a GBC and GBA. If I have to pick my personal favorite, it would be the GBC, even though I mostly just played Pokemon on it.

Nostalgia aside, the SNES had a lot of its own awesome games and ports of the best games of its time, so I'd have to say that the SNES probably had the best games.

I guess the poll should be "Which console did you grow up with?"
'cause I went back and played some SNES games with my bro last Christmas and holy fuck are they terrible! We tried out our entire old library and between terrible controls, glitches, and terrible graphics...

Granted at the time (meaning 20+ years ago) those games were great. But instead of aging like fine wine, they've aged like milk.

Gotta give it to the Gamecube. It just did everything right. The system was simple and portable, the controller just fuckin' works and is easily my favorite of all time, and that library; oh gods, that library. Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, F-Zero GX, Windwaker, SSB Melee, Sunshine, Pikmin, Tales of Symphonia, the rock-solid Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid remasters; all incredible titles, some of which are on my all-time favorites list. For me, Gamecube; no contest.

Pretty much the SNES. I mean that were most of the classic Nintendo games get their roots from (Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, LoZ: ALTTP, F-Zerp, Metroid,). Yes I know the real root is NES but I played that console when I was little. Even back then there were more and good 3rd party games aswell.

Game Cube. No only the Nintendo franchises like Metroid and Zelda got very refined in the CG age but we had Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin.

While my answer should probably be SNES...I look back and remember more gamecube games that stuck with me over the years. Voted Gamecube.

I think the reason for this answer is because my preference in games have changed over the decades. I'm not big into platforming like I was before. I can still enjoy Shovel Knight and Rogue Legacy as neat games to pass the time but they don't have much of a lasting impact on me. Other games have simply been improved upon over time such as sports titles and fighting games.

The one true standout for SNES these days is the RPG genre and those titles (FF6, Link to the Past, etc) don't quite make it superior to the gamecube games that I enjoy.

That's personal taste though.
My non-personal bias answer is SNES.

P.S: Why Omit the Wii and NES?

P.P.S: I'm in my mid-30's and was a nintendo fanboy since the original NES days for whatever that's worth. The only console I've missed out on has been the WiiU.

I think because of the mileage I've got out of my NES is why I love it. I had more fun with most of the games I played for it, even the horribly broken ones (Battletoads I'm looking at you). I owned a Genesis instead of SNES, but had a friend who had the SNES. I had more fun with the Genesis and feel that system "won" that era of consoles with a solid library whereas the SNES really only had more RPGs but, aside from the in-house developed games, the rest of the library fell flat in comparison.
At least with the NES I felt I had more fun with those games and can still go back and play my own personal library (I still have most of it) on the original console I had in '87 (only needed to replace the cartridge slot once but the rest is all still original pieces) and I still get a lot of joy from it.
Gamecube is a close second though because there were a LOT of great games for that system, and N64 is 3rd/4th on my list (tied with SNES).

It's very close between NES and SNES - the two Nintendo consoles with AMAZING third-party support. I voted NES because I saw it was getting much less votes than deserved.
