This topic just kinda popped up in my mind, but what sense would you give?

I would have to go with smell since well...there's a lot of stuff I would rather not have smelled(and I can still play games, listen to music, taste the magnificent wonders of food, and etc.)

One of the biggest factors in your sense of taste is your sense of smell. If you got rid of it completely things would taste different than they do now.

OT: I would get rid of my sense of sight. I've always wondered what the world would seem like if you couldn't see it.

Common sense. I mean it's common and everyone else has it for me. Right? Right?

Ever tried Closing your eyes =)?

I couldn't live without sight, unless of course I was born with it. Spending my life being able to see both the good and the bad in the world, losing my sight would just make me lose my will to live.

Yeah I was born without a sense of smell actually, so I'm going to go with that.

As for it affecting taste, I can't really confirm it as I've never 'properly' tasted anything so I can't really compare, but I do seem to dislike a lot of things most everyone loves, so it's quite likely.

Assuming it involves the loss of all feeling in and on the entire body, I'd give up touch. Why? Because without pain, I'd have very little to even consider being afraid of. Sure, sex would be weird without being able to feel her, but oh well.

That's different, though. I can still open my eyes at any point and see again. I've always wondered what it would be like to not have that luxery at all.

It's just one of the many strange things I've wondered.

To be more accurate, without a sense of smell you would only taste sweet, sour, salty, bitter and unami (meaty taste). Hence taste is the best to lose, since i would imagine that eating food that "tastes" bland would be better than eating food that tastes only of those 5 tastes. Even if it is just as bad, I am still left with the ability to smell.

There's a medical condition which causes this, you have to take into account other things such as hunger pains, the sphincter in your bladder hurts to tell you to go to the toilet, your body tell how hot or cold you are etc etc it would cause a lot of problems.

Granted in a fight you could go ape shit and not be affected.

To the OP there are a lot more than 5 senses, I think there are 21 of them. Things like sensing were your body parts are when your eyes are closed ... which is the one I would lose 'cos whats the point?

I could schedule times to eat and go to the restroom, and keep a thermometer nearby or check the weather more often. I know there'd be problems, and this isn't implied commentary on you but I'm not an idiot. There's ways to work around those issues, and since I'll be going into armed security in a few months it'd definitely help if anything went wrong on the job.

You would rather take on all of this, checking yourself and the weather constantly rather than not have the sense to smell or taste, which is more of a luxury these days anyway.

Or even pick my choice of not sensing where your arm is with your eyes closed, it won't effect your day to day life ... I doubt you would even notice you lost it until you were pulled over on suspicion of drink driving.

Along with smell goes a bunch of taste. But I'd still go with smell.

Most of the things you smell are bad anyway, fuck that.

Just because you can't feel it, it'll still hurt you - I can only imagine that not knowing when you're hurting your body/not knowing when your body have been hurt, would be extremely difficult to live with.

Smell, when the hell do you ever smell any good smells?

The word, smell, just lost all meaning to me...

Yup. Bacon tastes too good to give up. Also, security guard. If the power goes out and makes the building pitch black, I need to be able to operate in the dark until I can get a flashlight out.

But out of the five listed, I'd still give up touch.

It won't hurt, it'll injure me. Combat'd be easier if I didn't have to worry about pain, just the decreased functionality. Call me crazy, but I'm kind of lining up a career of the more dangerous security jobs.

Taste, I can continue smelling pwetty flowers, and smell still contributes to taste. Also, I don't eat food that tastes nice anyway, so no real loss.
