Day 1 DLC is kind of a dick move, but being a PC gamer I can tor--*cough* I mean, uh, "hack" it easily enough. Subscriptions get my vote.

Why the f should I be connected to the internet to be able to play online? It makes no sense. Lack of dedicated servers also pisses me of. Subscriptions are fine as long as it's reasonable price and as long as the money is used to improve the game.

Subscription Fees and GameGuard. I seriously hate that program more than any other DRM software. Also online to play singleplayer... why? Steam got it right with that offline mode crap, but I like Steam as it's like XBL for PC and works much better than the ACTUAL Games for windows Live thing.

. . . You guys realize that your subscriptions fees put back out constant updates, new content, and other stuff? Your not just paying the extra for no reason. Well people will be cheap as fuck and demand more service, i suppose.

However I find no excuse for day 1 DLC.
So after you have bent over and let WoW violate your ass, do you turn around and ask for seconds?

There is absolutely no reason for buying a game, 2 or 3 expansion packs and then pay for monthly subscriptions as well. Don't call people cheap for simply knowing better than to waste money on this piece of garbage.

DRM.

completely and utterly ineffective at it's job, so only effecting the only people it's not supposed to...

doubly annoying when pointlessly layered on top of digital distribution like steam (which at least has it's benefits to counter any built-in DRM annoyances)
The only DRM I have known to work is for a korean game called DJ Max Trilogy where it gives you a VERY high security USB key that stores your profile and requires you to launch the game.

And there has been a pretty much 0% piracy rate for that game. Which is why it worked. That or the DRM should be unintrusive and most importantly... not a fucking rootkit!

The lack of challenge in games is the worst trend by far.

If you wouldn't want to waste your time with a simplistic game anyway, the DRM, forced updates, fees and all won't make any difference.

Well I picked 'Cutting dedicated servers' because fuck you Infinity Ward and Codemasters. You and your decision to remove a tried and tested system that works perfectly well in order to make a lazy console port. But moving swiftly on I would also like to pick 'Day one DLC' but only if you get charged for it. Having to download extra content for a brand new game is a bit stupid, but expecting you to pay more for content that could've been put on the disc is just being greedy.

You have to be connected to the internet to play online because "online" often refers to being connected to the Internet. Perhaps you should rephrase your post.

Day 1 DLC- But DLc varies in quality, anything where the DLC was deliberately cut from the game so they could charge you for it later (Assassins creed 2 did this blatantly by actually skipping ahead years in the story, to fill it up with pointless DLC. EA does it in the sense that they offer things you can unlock by playing (Like weapons in bad company or souls in danties inferno) by paying for them. Its ok though is the content is designed more to prolong the life of the game in a meaningful way, Fallous a great example of this, and even though Oblivion gets a lot of jokes about horse armour, a lot of that DLC was great and kept me playing long after id have finished it.

I don't mind subscription fees (I have a sub to WoW and XBL), but cutting dedicateds on the PC really makes me angry. Games for Windows Live is beginning to kill PC gaming.

Subscription Fees.
Cool! I just paid 60 bucks for this kick ass game!
Wait, WTF? I have to pay 15 dollars a month just to use it!
That's a bloody 180 dollars a fuckin year!
*returns game to Gamestop*

EDIT: As for Xbox Live, I'm okay with paying $50 bucks a year as I put in enough hours to make it worth it.

So you don't read system requirements before you buy a game?

I choose day 1 DLC, since if the DLC is ready at launch, then it is clearly something that could be included on the disc or by a free update

Also,

Subscription fees
Cutting Dedicated servers
DRM/having to be online to play SP

Yeah, but my laptop is so crap that it doesn't live up to its own specs.
This was actually a hypothetical scenario.

Subscription fees. They're the only thing stopping me from playing both EVE Online and LOTR Online...

Subscriptions. I simply refuse to pay once for a game just to own it, then pay again to play it online (I'm looking at you, Xbox Live). Why pay AU$80 a year to play online with my 360 when my PC does it for free (and better)? That shit adds up y'know. Just 5 years (the average lifespan of a console, or at least it used to be, now it's probably a bit longer) at AU$80 becomes AU$400. Fuck that.
i respect that opinion, but id much rather pay 50 (american dollars) per year to play as many games as i want on it, then to have to pay 15 bucks a month AFTER purchasing 100 dollars (american again) worth of crap for mmo's and stuff, and 15*12*5 = 900. so i'd much rather pay for my xbl, which i have never had a problem with as it is, (i also use psn anyways for the most part, just saying i can't stand when computer games do that, yes i understand that they need money to pay for servers and whatnot, but fuck that its one fucking game for 15 a month, im not made of money)

I don't mind Day 1 DLC, if it stuff they couldn't fit in the disc.

But if its stuff like "unlocking" multiplayer in Resident Evil 5. Then yeah. I'm pissed.

As for those, I didn't know subscription fees were a trend. But that's the worst.

Sub. fees are the only things keeping me from going full on MMO and losing what's left of my sanity and social life. I hate them.
