I cast my vote for the first one. There was just no way that the other two could touch the feeling of popping in Prime for the first time, and playing as Samus in first-person for the first time.

I remember all my friends at the time were getting Xbox and starting in to Halo, and every time they laughed at me for blowing some of my money on a Gamecube, I'd just smile and reach for my copy of Metroid Prime.

Id haft to say Metroid Prime 1, just because i played it first and it BLEW ME AWAY.

The story, atmosphere, music, creatures, Art work, environments.....it was amazing.

Its one of my favorite games ever, followed closely by Metroid Prime 2 & 3.

Echos improved many things from Metroid Prime 1 but didn't pull me into the game as much as 1 did.
Corruption was a great end, the story was told a lot better and the weapon upgrades were smother and made the fighting more streamlined, plus it used the Wii-mote in some very cool ways.
Everything here explains it perfectly. Especially the title menu song :)

For myself, I'd have to say the first one was the best. Echoes was pretty good, but I missed a lot of the classic weapons (beam ammo wtf?), also I never did actually finish it; I got as far as the big boss ing, but he kicked my ass. Corruption, I just never really got into, I only made it as far as that one reptile creature with the three spheres that you have to shoot. I just couldn't beat him.

Ahh man.
I remember the first time i played the game i just stayed at the menu listening to the music for about 15 min....
Its still one of my favorite songs from the game.

I like the traditional Metroid feel of the first game. You know, the untelegraphed boss battle locations, exploring for powerups, Ridley... I enjoyed it the most of the two I've played; I don't have a Wii so I don't really have an opinion on it.
I forgot about Ridley. That might be my only gripe (if you can even call it that) with the game. His presence just kind of seemed tacked on... like 3/4 of the characters in "X-Men 3". It was an awesome fight, and it was cool to see a 3-D rendering of him, but I didn't know why he was there. In all honesty, by the time I got to him, I had completely forgotten he was there at all. It's not like he was an adversary throughout the game like Dark Samus.

Regardless, it's a minor complaint, and didn't ruin the game in the least bit.

All 3 are great games but I'd pick the first one as my favourite.Playing Metroid in 3D for the first time was mindblowing

Maybe its because I've played most through Metroid Prime 1, but I pick that one. Though its probably also for nostalgia. It was one of the first five games I bought for my GC, and one of my first ten games I bought with my own money, so...

God, that's like asking a mother what child she loves most.

Though I did pick Metroid Prime 1. because I enjoyed the setting slightly more.

I love all 3 of them, but I just got to pick the first because of the environment, the atmosphere and, of course, the enemies... Nothing, really nothing, in the second or third ever comes close to the panic I used to get whenever I encountered any of the phazon enhanced pirates.. Like that one time I got trapped in a room with 2 elite pirates, that really scared the shit out of me, because it was a really small room, I had little life left, and was almost out of missiles :D

A tie between Prime 1 and 3. Prime 1 started it, and had epic open-world and stuff, but Prime 3 had sublime controls (makes me wish I still had a Wii so I could snatch up Metroid Prime Trilogy). Prime 2 wasn't bad, but it did have some really really annoying boss fights (FUCK YOU SPIDER GUARDIAN). Prime 3 was okay, but it didn't have much of a memorable score, save for the menu theme. Oh god the menu theme. Gives me shivers every time.

That was one of the freakiest parts of Prime 1: the Pirate Complex. SO HARD, YET SO AWESOME. It felt like they took Metroid and mixed in some Metal Gear.

I think it's kinda unfair to pick one. The trilogy is a spectacular example of excellent game design, and it really proves that an FPS can be immersive and not need to rely on multiplayer to be fun.

Personally, I thought Echoes was the worst. I think fighting the Boost Guardian kinda killed it for me, and I stopped once I got to the final boss.

I just finished playing Corruption yesterday, and I enjoyed it moreso than the second one. I actually enjoyed the narrative shift, but the game just felt a little too easy. I only died once in a boss fight, and that was early on against Rundas. Fighting the Metroid Hatcher three ties, though, was a bit uninspired, however.

So I guess I would say the first one was my favorite, even though I don't really remember too much of it.

First one. The atmosphere and environments were, though slightly more stereotypical game (ice world, lava world etc.) beautifully done, and the music in each was perfect. Not that either of the other two fell down on that though - that airbourne city in Corruption is incredible. I suppose the exploration and the nostalgia of the first time I played Metroid in 3D wins it.

The second two never made me feel scared though. The pirate base, or sneaking out of the base in phendrana drifts when the lights have turned off (just after you've got the thermal visor) and there are stealth pirates hidden everywhere was both creepy and brilliant fun.

One thing to say about all three though: Down with respawning enemies! At least give us a couple of sets and randomise it so it doesn't boil down to "open door, lock on to insect, missile, charge, turn right, shoot reptile thing" etc.

What is it about the Boost Guardian that people hate? I fought him just yesterday. He was annoying, but not any more than that Omega Pirate from Prime. God I hated that fight.

Funny xD I just beat Prime, and I'm about half-done with Echoes, and trying to negotiate using the Wii (my brothers have taken it over recently).

So far though, I say Prime is my favorite. As a story period, it's one of my favorites, right up there with Portal or any of Asimov's work. The music is sublime, the graphics are pretty impressive even today, the atmosphere is fantastic... and Prime gave me one of the only moments in a game where I honestly just stopped playing and stared at the screen for about a minute. That said, the Torvus Bog in Echoes is very nice looking, and I love the music for it. I cannot wait to see Corruption, especially since I read some of the interesting bits on TV Tropes. Gotta say, I'm itching to see what the hell would cause someone to puke Phazon, let alone shrugging it off like they described.

I did a straight shot through the Magmoor Caverns, and was on my last energy tank when I finally got to the elevator. Blasted my way through the tunnel, then this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrVoQSdw8Zs&feature=related] starts up, and I'm treated to that little cutscene showing of the Phendrana Drifts (if it helps, I am a winter freak- snowy areas are just heaven for me).

It's rare I'll call something beautiful and mean it, but given my tastes... Yeah, Prime's just beautiful. The scenery, the scans (I had to read the 'Metroids are not pets' thing twice to confirm it was real, and some of the Chozo messages were quite sweet), the overall atmosphere... the only thing Echoes did better was when it came to boss fights. Prime made you work, but you feel like a monster truck that walks like a man when you beat some of Echo's bosses (LOOKING AT YOU YOU FRIGGIN... DRAGONFLY THING. It took a ton of hits and finally dying once before I realized you could only lock on when you were facing its back.)

... wow that made me sound like more of a fangirl than I am.

Did you fight him in the Gamecube version or the Wii version?

EDIT: Durr, I'm dumb. It's in the OP. *headdesk*

I played the Boost Guardian in the Gamecube version, and you have to fight him while constantly under the effects of the atmosphere of Dark Aether. Meaning constant health drain. Making what should have been a rather straight-forward battle an exercise in tenacity. I've heard the Wii version made that boss fight a LOT easier by simply adding in one of those protective spheres of light.

God I hated the Boost Guardian... took me about three or four tries to kill him. But hey, those of us playing the Gamecube version have to be that much better.

Cue rage face.

... then again, it's nothing compared to the first time I took on Metroid Prime.

I was one hit away from killing it- no joke, the thing had a tiny-ass sliver of health left. I had an energy tank and a half left.

The bastard spawned two Fission Metroids on me, and I was out of power bombs. The fact I still have a working TV is a miracle.
