Episode 3 had the opportunity to turn things around for the series... It didn't.

It was a fucking awful film. Terrible acting, worse dialogue, incoherrent tone, horrible set pieces, boring choreography, crap villains, predictable action sequences, diabloical attempts at humour and without a doubt some of the worst character moments in the history of star wars.

This film utterly ruined the Emporer as a credible and dangerous presence, Anakin was already a lost cause by episode 2, with this film Hayden Christian found himself on a do not hire list. Natalie Portman looked to be in physical pain throughout (and her worst perfomance as an otherwise superb actress). Ewan Mcgregor had quite obviously given up on acting halfway through. Yoda became a shallow parody of himself. Darth Vader lost all his dark coolness and credibilty with a single syllable...

A handful of scenes from that movie are all that can be salvaged from what should have been a great film.

I'm not mad... Just disappointed.

At least phantom menace had pod racing. As a 10 minute short film, that would have rocked.

Episode 2 cos I don't hate Jar Jar as much as everyone else, and for this reason:

HOWEVER. The romance plot that takes up the majority of the time in Episode 2 is SO bad that it manages to blot out all light or awesome stuff that the rest of the movie is doing.

None, they weren't meant for you, they were meant for preteens, teens, and kids, and they sold more than you can imagine and the Clone Wars series is loved by them too.

Whether or not you agree is your prerogative but that's the fact proven by streams of incoming money.

I enjoyed all of them, I think I liked Revenge of the Sith the most, but I'd of cut out the ending scene because I didn't like how they did the battle.
Sure I agree they are fine movies if you are 6 years old. However, to the best of my knowledge, the Escapist has a somewhat older crowd, so my question is geared to people who grew up with the first ones. However, I will take your opinion into account and not post these in a Nickelodeon or Justin Beiber forum.
That's just insulting kids...

16 year old's liked it too.

Kids movie........

I would have went with schizophrenic and has no clue just who to cater the film to.
When I was a kid I watched True Lies every other week. For a while.

Kids, teens, and pre-teens, as long as not subjected to vulgarity ridden idiocy in movies, can do just fine with political intrique.

Pretty much all of them in my opinion.

RedLetterMedia's reviews were brilliant in explaining why.

Episode 1 & 2 score pretty equally bad in my mind, I voted episode 1 though just for how much I hated JarJar Binks...terrible.

None of the new episodes are ANYWHERE near as good as the old Star Wars. Not even close by a mile.

This was all I could think of when I was writing my little post here, this review perfectly explains why all 3 of the new movies were dogshit in comparison to the original movies...

I will say this much on the subject before remembering that I just don't see eye to eye with the Star Wars fan base. For all the bad moments in Phantom Menace, I at least remember it. And I still think the duels with Darth Maul were awesome to watch, even if the final one was a little head scratching for me.
Attack of the Clones I remember nothing about. There was something about a war and introducing a not-Bobba Fett, but I remember nothing about that film. If it was not Star Wars, there would be no reason to remember it.
I guess what I am saying is, Attack of the Clones was worse for me because it was bad and unmemorable while Phantom Menace was just bad. And the third one was alright.

Gotta say Episode 1 is probably my worst.

2 had some good action sequences and I actually liked 3. 1 is the most boring to me.

Episode 2 was crap. There was more stilted, crappy romance then anything actually exciting. But then Episode 1 has Jake Lloyd, Podraces and fucking Jar-Jar Binks! So I've gotta say Episode 1.

Also I kinda enjoyed Episode 3 (don't kill me!)

3 for me, in all honesty I like episode 1 other then everything with anikin,, but as a kid I didn't know what that little monster would do to the movies. other than that Darth maul, double bladed light-sabers, and what I believe is great vehicle design, it was pretty good.

Why is there no "I actually LIKED the prequels" choice?

Guys, the Original Trilogy are not the holy grails of cinema that you think they are. They're just movies.

As far as I can tell, the biggest crime the prequels committed according to fans can be expressed with the following quote:

Oh my god! Darth Vader is now a three dimensional character with fears and anxieties? BLASPHEMY!
1. Because the prequels sucked, so giving a "I Liked Them" option doesn't make any sense. :)

2. Seriously though, if you think the reason people don't like the prequels is because an attempt was made to make Darth Vader a 3 dimensional character then you haven't been paying attention to the criticism leveled against the films. I know it has already been mentioned, but watching the Red Letter Media review of the film gives a very through review of the films and all of there problems (and is also a great of example of movie criticism in general)

I'd have to go with Episode II, because I've seen all three films in the order in which they were released and I can't remember what the second one was about. Except that, you know, there was a clone army that the Jedi stupidly used to fight a droid army.

I don't hate any of the films as passionately as some people seem to, I've actually had fun sitting through them. But they don't really hold up as individual films, nor do they share the clear (if "banal") message of the original trilogy.

Well I love all three prequels and think the first three are steaming piles of donkey shit. The three prequels are some of my favorite movies ever made, while the others aged poorly and have very little to offer in terms of quality, story, emotional impact, etc.

Even the famous "I am your father" scene was so poorly done it's ridiculous it even became famous. It held no form of suspense, it wasn't a shock twisting in any sense, it was acted our poorly, the pacing was terrible. People act as though the prequels were just some money grab when I could say the same about 4, 5, 6. This "shock twisting" seems like it was randomly chucked in at the last minute with no thought put into it. Atleast the prequels gave some meaning behind it.

Of course, I acknowlege they would have been great at the time of release. Just not anymore. IMO!

I find Episode 2 pretty much unwatchable. The movie runs at a slow and uninteresting pace for the first half. I admit to enjoying the experience the first time through but that doesn't make it a good movie.

Personally Episode 1 is far and away my favorite of the new trilogy. It starts off really strong and kept my interest through most of the story. Jar Jar is admittedly annoying and the pod race goes on far to long but that was still not enough to ruin the movie. I'd actually watch it over Episode 2, 3, and 6.

Nothing about the character Anakin in the prequels was three dimensional. Every indication of said fears and anxieties was vomited without subtlety or ceremony out of Hayden Christensen's mouth. Bad writing, bad acting leads to a shallow, unbelievable character.

Any Star Wars fan already knew about the fears and anxieties, already knew there were some very human, very real reasons for Anakin's fall. The disappointment with the prequels has nothing to do with learning about Anakin. It has everything to do with the movies being aimed not at fans but at making new fans out of children.

It feels like a bit of a betrayal, but as a company I can't really fault Lucas Arts for it. They made a shitload of money which is all Star Wars was ever made to do anyway.

OT: Episode 2 gets my vote. Episode 1 and 3 were marred by plot holes, bad writing, and an over-use of CG, but neither of them made me literally cringe the way that Episode 2's "romance" scenes did.

That's just the silliest thing I've ever heard. I know I'm not a kid anymore but I seriously doubt kids are fawning over intergalactic trade politics, and diplomatic manuvering, and who can forget all the genocide too.....yup, totally a kids movie
