You need a better camera
It's not all in the camera, Believe it or not, this was shot with a P&S and then processed heavily.

Check out Compound Eye on flickr, he's a master of making the most of a shot in post processing.

Although four grands worth of gear certainly helped me!!
Yeah, I have been on a photography course and know a little bit, it's not a major interest of mine, I'm more focused on the abstract beauty of the waking world and describing it in literature. But the photos on the first page look like something my 2 megapixel phone camera can knock out.

When you get a go using professional gear, the photos are unbelievably better.

The second, mainly because I feel that I've seen the first and third ones done a billion times before. The third is my favourite, though.
My thoughts exactly. Though change it to the first as the one I like more.

I'm saying the third. It follows the rule of thirds better and isn't too busy, I like the ambiguous background and the sharp contrast with the foreground

I know the pro gear is a lot better (I own two bodies, seven lenses, a flash and all the usual crap that you need to keep it functioning), but a P&S can deliver, you just need to treat them with care due to most of the auto settings being designed to totally gimp any attempts at just about anything!

At first, I was going to say Image 3, but then I looked harder.

I thought about the implications of the second image, of how a chain could be damaged like that, and the picture took on a whole new appeal for me.

It's not necessarily that I like the idea of someone/something chewing it's way to freedom, it's just that the image has a greater meaning than a brick wall, or a set of lights.

Hence, I vote for Image 2.

Also, if you get a chance, read this journal. She makes many valid points, and quite a few of the people who posted before me should take note of what she has to say.
