The thing that bugged me about Voldemort was that those wands had to be aimed and didn't have sights, so the effective range on any of those spells must have been pretty lame, about what you'd get firing a shotgun slug from the hip.
One muggle or Muggle Studies geek with an SMLE Mk 3, one round and zeroed sights and it's all over for him.
If I'd been in that world I'd have tried accio patronum to get a sword and shield or a naginata for the dementors as well.
Then again, it would probably have been read as "light-sabre" by a lot of fans, wouldn't it?
