I think Fallout 3 was a better game... but I would still rather see another Elder scrolls game come out before Fallout. The next newest thing from Bethesda will always be better than the last.
TES and FO might be coming out this year, it's official for FO 4 but yet I have still not have heard any new news about TES V, if doesn't get confirmed soon we are looking at 2011 -2013 at the latest

Oblivion felt more clunky and unrealistic. While it is from the same designer, the immersion that I love in Fallout isn't really present in Oblivion. I'm sure I'll keep playing it since I did pay for it, but it feels more like a game where F3 feels more like a journey, and while games are great, journeys are better in my mind

Oblivion is by no means a bad game, but it's easy to tell that it came before F3. That kind of makes it an unfair comparison for that reason, Obliv. was the first try, and the things they fixed helped make F3 better

Fallout 3 wins, even though I don't own either. I have a friend who has it and I come over and enjoy killing civilians with him.

I can't really judge as I only got the latter this weekend (Game and all expansions for £15 new, yay :D), but at the moment it's really hard to tell. I like Oblivions setting, and find the combat more appealing. I prefer Fallout's story, and the skill system is a little better.
However, I'll say Oblivion due to the fact that I got frustrated at Fallout two or three hours in due to how pansy my character was, how badly made my equipment was, my inability to repair it, inability to heal during a trip, and of course, having absolutlely no ammo for my favourite weapons. So I used cheats and fixed all that. Since I'm juding without cheats, however, Oblvivion it is.

I love them both but Oblivion takes the cake. Thanks to the fantastic modding community my copy now has superb graphics and about 3x the original content. + I like lush green worlds and owning lots of houses!

I liked Fallout's setting, Oblivion's abundance of quests, Fallout's choices, Oblivion's combat, Fallout's enemies, Oblivion's guilds, Fallout's levelling system and Oblivion's incredible abundance of superb mods.

Fallout 3, i have had way more fun with it.

My only gripe is since its clear they were going for a shooter aspect they should have tightened the action up a bit. The game has the clunky feel i remember from oblivion, keeping a bead on an enemy can be a pain in the ass even with small slow moving characters. Most enemies also have the irritating MMO effect of super speed to close the distance on you.

as much as i love oblivion and i do... so much.... but fo3 was much more inversive, they are both too similar to compare to for the immersion alone i have to say fo3

Oblivion had Patrick Stewart. Also I'm a more of a Fantasy fan though I have yet to finsih Oblivion while I've completed all of Fallout 3. Plus having spells gave Oblivion an extra depth to it tactics wise compared to Fallout.

Bit of a Sophie's choice for me as I love them both, but Fallout 3 takes for me with the better play mechanics and because the Capital Wasteland sucked me in that bit more than Cyrodil.

Oblivion for me the world seems more complete and the quests are more interlinked rather than all the completely separate quests of fallout. That said i do love them both.

Does that mean we will be getting Vegas and Fallout 4? Or are they the same game?

Also, I was under the impression the Elder Scrolls games are done because the story arc with the Emperor is finished. I think all that really means is the title, "Elder Scolls", wont be used for future games taking place in the fantasy world they've created.

It's a really tough decision, I loved Fallout for its storyline, VATS Mode, and just the awesomeness of the weapons and such.
With Obvivion it wasn't all grey and bleak like Fallout, you had spells which could completely overpower an enemy which could make things somewhat boring, but the funniest thing in Oblivion by far would be all of the glitches and bipolar citizens.

I guess I'd have to go with Fallout going 55%
Oblivion 45%

I love them both, each has a unique story and feel. I love Oblivion because I am a sucker for the fantasy aspect, and Fallout because.....well.....it is just an awesome game.
I think if I am forced to choose though, it would have to be Oblivion...I loves me some Elder Scrolls

Fallout 4 = Vegas

either they are done or nearing it, they have been developing it since 2008 but I cannot find it anyway on amazon or any other sites similar pre-ordering TES V not even on the official website so it doesn't look good.

Oblivion. I like The Elder Scrolls and have for years - the Fallout world is just too much parody for me, I guess. The little blonde cartoon guy drives me nuts.
