Both are Awesome, but since Fallout3 performs better and doesn't crash nearly as easily as Oblivion, so I gotta give it to Fallout.

Normally I prefer Post apocalyptic sci-fi games but in these case it's Oblivion. I don't know what it really was but I Fallout 3 was just boring for me. The first hour was quite fun but I lost interest really fast. Oblivion on the other hand kept me playing until I did every last quest and even than I still wanted to play more.

Null vote. Vanilla Fallout 3 is far better then Vanilla Oblivion. Better graphics, Better NPCs, better story, better leveling system and so forth however once you start installing mods Oblivion becomes much, much better. Re-work the leveling and combat systems? Check. Add any number of new quests, and infact entire new areas? Check. Improve the graphics to such a degree they as good if not better then that version running on CryEngine 2? Check.

Fallout 3.
I found Oblivion boring, bland, the combat insipid and samey regardless of weapon or type. Literally left click, left click, left click, heal, left click, left click, left click, heal. Repeat everytime you see an enemy.
.

Hold left click, tab, stim pack, stim pack, stim pack, tab, hold left click or V, left click, left click, left click, enter, wait for something to die, repeat is so much better?

Fallout 3. It has:

- Better Graphics
- Better Voice Acting
- Better Plot
- Better Open-World
- Better Combat
- Better enemies

Oblivion can't hold a candle to it. The only thing I can think it does better is the number and variety of quests Oblivion has, which is actually quite staggering.

I don't like Oblivion much, although I've started to respect it more now that I've begun to ignore the main plot.

Fallout 3 was a better game in ever way, and I really enjoyed it. But I liked Oblivion more, even though it was a buggy and broken game.

I choose Oblivion. The world just seems so much deeper and rewarding. Don't get me wrong, I love F3, it's my 6th favourite game of all time, but Oblivion is my 4th.

Eesh... Too difficult to pick a winner...

From Oblivion I liked the pretty scenery, the environment changes (from snowy mountains to marsh swamps to lush forests), the faction quests (especially the dark brotherhood) and the open ended gameplay.

From Fallout 3 I liked the questing system, VATS, guns and the gritty "reboot" of Washington as an apocalyptic wasteland (complete with landmarks blasted to hell).

Between them I reckon they'd make an absolutely brilliant game, but it almost seems that it would be impossible to make Elder Scrolls 5 with VATS or Fallout 4 with scenery and assassins...

Perhaps it would be great for Bethesda to come out with a new sandbox game that combines the environments and faction type questing from Oblivion with the guns and fun of Fallout...

One can dream... One can dream...

Fallout 3, hands down. I have both but I have to say Fallout because of everything. It has better story, setting, characters and it has V.A.T.S (pleasure moan). It also has vault boy and Liam Neeson (although for only a very short period of time).

Fallout 3 by a long mile. They are basically the same game with different paint, but Fallout 3 is more polished, and has bigger attention to detail and characters, better leveling and progression where you actually feel you are getting stronger, and it has freakin Three Dog. I mean, how can oblivion compete with Three Dog.

Oblivion is still a great game tho, Fallout3 just has the advantage of being released later, so they tweaked what was wrong with Oblivion.

Easy, Oblivion, after the gloos wore off, I realised FO3 was kicking the enite Fallout series in the balls so hard, they ruptured. Seriously, it is sooooo easy it's rediculous, Fallout's have always been more about the challenge of survival, but FO3 distracted poor gameplay, poor story and copy-pasted characters with "OOOOOHHHHH LOOK AT THE PRETTY LIGHTS!!!!" and sadly/disgustingly, alot of people have been distracted, even with all the DLC, it feels hollow and they added Fallout to it so it would sell. I do like innovation, and when I heard FO3 was an FPS I creamed, but sadly Bethesda have just raped the FO univerese in the eye-socket.

So, yeah Oblivion all the way, it is sexy, it is bad and I love it :).

Maybe I should've put Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchise.
If you did that, then it would be Fallout, all the way. The first 2 Fallout games are some of the best RPG's ever made, in my view. Elder Scrolls is good, but if you throw Fallout 1 + 2 into the equation, no contest.
Yes but Morrowind is a powerhouse as well.

Fallout 3 took basically everything I liked about Oblivion, Morrowind, and the first Fallout, and left out just about everything I didn't like about them (granted, it brought in some of its own problems, but they were fairly minor in the grand scheme of things IMO).
