I was born into lower middle, but as I grew up my parents continued to excel at their jobs and are now definitely upper class. But I don't live with them anymore, and so now I'm back to working class. /sadface

Theoretically that odd upper-end of the British lower classes. My father's a chippy, and he's rather pulled the family up to that blurry bit between the British lower and middle classes. Mother doesn't quite have the insane achievement drives that characterises many middle class matriarchs

umm... well, im technically in a family with nobility, and i do have a pronounced accent (apparently anyway, i cant hear accents), but really my mum took such a huge drop from the position of my grandparents that i cant say anything beyond middle class. im not really sure about the social status of my father, but he strikes me as a working class.

so, im going with lower middle class.

Father was a dump-truck driver for construction sites.

Mother was a lazy piece of sh*t, who ended up divorcing my dad when I was 4 and had kids with 3 other dudes. I don't remember there ever being a time where we were up to date on the house payments.

I'm pure white trash, and I renounce my upbringing and my pathetic family. I've seen how to live all the wrong ways growing up, and I now choose the right as I see it. 22 Years old, and I'll need any of them, or anyone else, ever again.

...

Sore subject for me =p.

Cut that, you live in the UK.

Here in the states we have a system where if banks are chartered by the FDIC then they must ensure up 100,000USD. But then, there are better places such as Switzerland which I think ensures up to a million.

I'm not sure, none of my parents wealth was inherited but I still went to a public school and a very good University. So am I Upper Class or Middle class?
It's less about inheritence and more about lifestyle IMO. If you live in their house and they pay for your school and food then I'd say it depends on your parent's lifestyle.
Well I live in their house, which is a Castle and monocles are required dress at dinner

I'm somewhat torn. I'm born into a rich, upper middle class family, but with little history behind that. My ancestors were farmers. My dad earns below the national average. I go to a good, expensive school, and I went to an expensive primary school. I and my siblings are rich by inheritance, but my father has money because he sells our land, and still loses that money over time.

Going by my generation you'd say my family was upper middle, or even upper class. We have Etonian accents, and my brothers both work high-end, very well paying jobs. Well, two of them. One of them has no job, and is arguably more upper class, as he spends his money on eating at the Dukes Hotel. When in London we never eat at the Ritz, as it is very tacky. Or shop in Harrods as it is very tacky also.

Maybe Fortnum and Mason's but that's pushing it. So we're rich, and behave in an upper class manner, but that is by inheritance, as our history is poor. Where am I?

Hmm. Difficult to answer.

Just about my entire extended family on both sides is middle class / upper middle class, and yet my parents have basically alternated between situations in which they'd be considered Middle Class, or Underclass.

I suppose the reality of my circumstances in recent years puts me into the Underclass, but that's not actually the question in the OP...

I would say that I was born into the lower middle class, as before I was born, my parents and brother were very poor, but thanks to my mother becoming a nurse and Reaganomics, my family progressed to the middle class, and I'm guessing I was born in the middle of that process.

I would say upper middle class. My dad got a scholarship to Caltech, founded a company called Stacker, and worked on some of the earliest data-compression software.

Upper-Middle Class. I'm incredibly lucky, I know. Mother is a hard-working doctor who just started doing cosmetic surgery. And i have to say that the poll is a pretty good example of the bell curve, awesome imo.

I voted upper middle class... it's all due to my parents hard work though.

My dad is a Barrister and a Solicitor my mom is an RN.
I work in a hospital staffing nurses, should have went to class more often than to the bar i guess... lol

I'd say middle class (upper maybe). My dad came as an immigrant and worked his ass off untill he made something for himself.
