I'm going to actually risk getting flak for this and say that I actually don't like the 40k space marines that much. They kind of irritate me, what with their perfection and eighty hearts and lungs or what have you. Plus, religious zealots :p It feels like when you have these supersoldiers that are literally inhuman and can fight forever, it's too over the top and just... boring.

I like the Imperial Guard / Halo / StarCraft (hell, original Starship Troopers) style Space Marines much, much more. Where they're pretty much just average joes like you and me, only they're fighting. In space. With guns.

Of those, I guess I like the Terrans best. If only because they're rednecks in space, and that makes me laugh. "Hey, Sarge, looks like you hit some poor fellers' dog." "Nah, Lester, that ain't a dog. That's a Zergling."
Actually, if I remember the back story right, the Starcraft marines are reprogrammed criminals serving a sentence for crimes.

And yeah, that was a hilarious cutscene "I love you sarge" "Hu-?" *Zerg chomp*

Apart from not actually being a space marine. In fact, the COG strike me more as a TA than a marine force of any kind. Also, you seem to forget that GoW's most noteworthy feature are all inspired by 40K. Lancer baynoet, humanity being on its last legs, high gothic architecture with classical inspiration. Plus, the entire COG is about on par with some of the more experienced guard regiments. Only their weapons are far weaker.

Yes they do, all marines are given every organ. It's just that some of the longer lasting chapters have had the quality of certain organs degrade over the years.

All the marines on medusa V could spit acid, for example.

The Starcraft Marines (from what I remember of the IP, and it has been a LONG time since I looked) are convicts who's only chance at freedom was to fight?
Interestingly enough, that was rogue trader era 40k fluff that got expanded on (pretty heavily).

My vote goes to 40ks marines, I mean they can kill you, eat your brains and then just know where your mates are hiding.

No, I favour him because he was here before all of these tank men.
He is more win.

And in fluff, the Eldar make them look like pansies.

I don't really like the Space Marines either. Imperial Guard are more fun on the table (in Epic at least) and Orks are far more characterful.

1 half of that with religion is wrong. why? because the person they workship is ALIVE.
Well, it depends. Isn't there actually some confusion over whether or not the Emperor is ACTUALLY alive anymore? Like, the Chaos (I believe it's them, could be wrong) call him the "Corpse God," don't they? It doesn't actually matter, because they're still religious zealots, all FOR THE EMPEROR MUST EXTERMINATE THE HERETIC blar de blagh. Whether or not the Emperor is actually alive is meaningless :p

Right. Still, they might be criminals, but they're mainly average joes. Just ... average Joes who commit crimes. And end up bolted into power armor.

Exactly. The SC marines have humor. They're more enjoyable to me because of that then the 40k marines who are all 100% SRS BSNS all the time. (See: Halo's Sgt. Johnson for another example of humor making space marines awesome)

Well, yeah. The entire 40k universe is a biiiit over the top for me, to be perfectly honest. I much prefer Warhammer Fantasy. But we're not talking about the Eldar here, strictly speaking, we're comparing Space Marines :)

You should get yourself acquainted with the space wolves from 40k then, in a nutshell they're ale drinking space vikings with a side of lycanthropy.

Blood angels for the win, if Horus was not the Emperor's favourite, Sanguinius would have been warmaster, and we would still have the Great Crusade!

If you read all of my post you will see that I never said that there wasn't an implant organ that could make them spit acid, just that I don't know of any chapters that still use it.

They do not spit acid, that implant organ is generally not used. I actually don't know any chapter that uses it.
Give me a chapter name of one that does and I will check it out.

I meant to put these new tank men, like all the ones you see in every new game now? :)

That's not fair. The Warhammer 40k universe is so over the top it's not even funny.

Sorry. The concept of the 40k space marines - in that they're super-everything religious fanatics - bores me :/ I've really got no interest in them.

How could it be anything other than 40k? They're hotter than the sun right now! After years of a small amount of loyal fanatics this neato over the top mythos is getting the recognition it deserves. Granted I never PERSONALLY played as Marines; but I've had my Dark Eldar and Witch-hunters sounded whupped by them many times (I do WIN sometimes). My personal favorite was the Space Wolves chapter; melee fighting machines that are a cross between werewolves, vikings, and barbarians. Who are the least 'religious zealoty'
