Hmmm... I'd probably go for Windhelm or Riften.

Windhelm is a pretty nice place with the few main let downs being the racism encountered from the start (The 2 guys insulting a Dark Elf when you first enter) and the
Murderer that lives there which may or may not be a problem if you'd done that sidequest

Riften seems quite cozy but its let downs are the theives running around the place and the whole "May get targeted by the theives guild at any point" thing... I suppose if I tried to get friendly with the thieves guild it wouldn't be a problem. Also if the mead is as good as the cart driver keeps saying it is I wouldn't care.

I think I may have to choose Riften purely for the mead...

Falkreath, Nice scenery, & plenty of old ruins to explore.Right now, I live In a modded house In the Rift/Falkreath border.
Thought I'd be disappointed with this thread. Falkreath really is a nice looking place.

Solitude. My house there is really nice, I'm a respected member of the city, and no one hates me because I happened to be born an Argonian.

Solitude, mainly because it reminds me a lot of Skingrad my favorite city in all of the Elder Scrolls. But also because it has a strong Imperial presence and it's just beautiful, modern, safe, and has the most shops.

EDIT: In real life I would live in Solitude because as an actor and historian-in-the-making the Bard's college would be a wonderful place to learn and perform, and also to join the Imperial Army.

My least favorite place to live would be Markarth or Windhelm, for two obvious rebellious type of people. I really can't stand the Forsworn or the Stormcloaks. They're both wonderful looking cities it's just the people I can't stand.

I'd get the hell out of Skyrim. Hate the cold. Anything below 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) is just unpleasant. The only time I don't mind it is when I'm on a hiking trip and am in my "Man vs Wild" mode.

So...I'd probably move to Anvil.

Whiterun, I spend most of my time there, I store my best gear there, and the pub seems like a place I'd be happy!
(Oh and my husband, Farkas and I like to be close to Jorrvaskr)

A worrying number of people picked Riften. Good luck with surviving and all that stuff, heh... heh...

Whiterun for me. It's the only city on the game that really feels both safe and friendly.

Whiterun, for sure. It's the coolest city, it has the Dragonsreach, and I could try to join the Companions. Strive to become a Werewolf in the inner circle and also tend the Skyforge!

Also, Jarl Bargruuf is the shizz. I kept thinking he should be the new High King once I'd quelled Ulfric's rebellion.

I really like the Arch-Mage's room in the College at Winterhold. I don't want to give anything away, but the College holds some dark secrets...

Also : i loathe Riften. Everytime i visit it, it's like walking knee deep in sh*t. :|
Not to mention the fact that you'd probably get mugged the second you stepped out of the house, since if this was the REAL you living there, you would not be able to scream at people till they die, unfortunately.

I think Whiterun has a pretty cool look to it, and it's quite central, not too much crime, occasional traders from the rest of Tamriel, not ridiculously racist etc. Lots of reasons to live in Whiterun, if you want to live anywhere in Skyrim in the first place.

Whiterun is certainly the nicest place I've found in Skyrim.

I haven't spent too much time in the other holds (Other than Winterhold, I'm playing pretty much a pure mage this time through)

Though I do have a pretty funny story about Markarth:

After getting involved in the Forsworn Plot, I killed the guy in the mines and escaped by myself.

When I got out of the mines, that guy who was trying to use the Forsworn for his own goals gave me back my stuff... and then as he turned to leave I incinerated his ass.

A little later a courier came by and gave me a letter of inheritance from the guy I killed. I think I made Markarth a slightly better place to live over the course of that quest line. And was rewarded for it.

Who would want to live in Morthal? I think it's probably the least relevant, scrumiest town in all Skyrim.
