Poll: Which town in Skyrim would you live in?

I love Markarth. It has such a unique look to it and I find the Dwemer architecture to be the best.
Well on one side there's Whiterun. I'd have to kill the Talos screamer and Battle-Borns (they annoy me so badly) and then it would be the perfect town. It's not that secure though. It's right in the middle of everything and the Companions aren't that great at defending it. Also,
Other side is Winterhold. I'd like it there but there would be nothing to do but study magic and/or get drunk. Those two don't mix well. It would be preferable to actually be a wizard there as if you're a normal bloke, you'd die due to the stupid experiments of the mages there. Although, now that I think about it, the amount of disasters that happen to mages too aren't really worth it.
Hated Riften (completely corrupt), Markath would be a pain to live in due to huge amount of stairs, Windhelm isn't safe (security is not at its finest) otherwise I'd probably pick that. Solitude is lead by an incompetent. The other main cities aren't walled. So...Dawnstar maybe? I'd probably just head back to Cyrodiil. Skingrad is nice this time of year.
werewolves, man. You're basically at the whim of their fragile self-control. Not to mention that if this were Daggerfall or Morrowind, they'd have a thirst for innoncent blood every now and then

I didn't really like or enjoy any aspect of Skyrim, towns included. The game bored me away from it and into the uninstall button after a dozen or so hours. But the first town you arrive at after escaping the dragon was kind of cool, with the water turbine and such.
Bah Skyrim is cold. I'd move to Daggerfall which is also cold but has loads of Bretons so is better. If it had to be Skyrim i'd go for Markarth.
I find it funny that you think Riften is the corrupt city. In my opinion, it would be Markarth. Riften has a thief problem, but in my opinion, that is no where near as bad as the problems Markarth suffers from.darth.pixie said:

Yeah, I used to like Markarth because I thought the architecture was cool, but somewhere between those three quests I referenced in the spoilers, I started seriously disliking this town.
That is what I said, yes. Morrowind is one of the best games I've ever played and Oblivion stole countless hours from me, so I was really quite excited for Skyrim. I think it was the thrill of finally having another Elder Scrolls that kept me going for as long as I did - that and hoping it would get better. To quickly answer the new question: that is a toughie! I'll have to go Balmora from Morrowind, just because it was the first time in a video game I ever felt like the world around me was alive and full of real people (and creatures) with their own unique roles in the community at large. I really felt like my character was an intruder into this alien homeworld with a strange culture, sordid mystery, quirky clubs and larger than life personalities. I remember just walking around for hours with a look of intrigue on my smiling face, turning over every leaf and opening every door. Every character I met led me down a new path but it never felt overwhelming for some reason. It was as though I had all the time in the world to just... exist inside this epic tale that both unfolded around me and with me.

That's a lot to do with rose tint and... what's that word when you remember something being better than it was, just because of the situation at the time? Something like that, lol.
Ivarstead, seems to be one of the more secluded settlements, and it's near a damn nice river. Get me a house there and I'm set.
Whiterun. Plenty of fertile land around, barely any snow, minimal racism, good area for trade, the combined might of the Companions as back-up, and relatively inexpensive housing. Solitude would probably be my second choice, since it's nice and secure.
I was going to pick Makarth, since it's solid and relatively dragon-proof, but it's corrupt as hell, the Forsworn would probably want to murder everyone, and quite frankly, having been inside the Dwarven ruins there, the threat of some Centurions getting free or a Falmer assault makes me pretty damn nervous. Riften has too many thieves and looks awful and Windhelm is just too racist. As much as I like the College of Winterhold, I wouldn't want to live near the thing in case some accidentally summoned apparitions started tryingto eat my face, and the other Holds and minor towns are just dull.
