Oh-ho. You've got a solid group right there. All you need is an IG player, and you've got a great campaign group.Dectomax said:Now, my conundrum is this; I'm starting 40K up again, a few friends are interested and are buying armies. ( Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Orks and Chaos/Tyranids )
Hot damn. First and second? Does that mean you have those absolutely awesome early Terminators? Because depending on how many of those you have (dreads, too, if memory serves), that might affect my recommendation.Dectomax said:I'm unsure whether to Repair my Dark Angel army ( Standing at just over 5000pts and mostly consisting of 1st/2nd edition models ) or too chose a new army/collect a new batch of speeeshmehreens.
I've had rather bad experiences with Tau. Or rather, I've had good experiences playing against them, so only bad for my opponent. The Firewarriors aren't terribly good shots to begin with, and for all the punch their rifles had, my Iron Warriors still managed to outgun them. Heavy bolters make mincemeat out of them, and Kroot are all well and good against light infantry, but they're a soft counter. Raptors and Berzerkers eat them alive. Same goes for other designated assault troops.Dectomax said:I'm looking at the Tau with interest, because I think they look awesome and I like their longer range, though they'd suck in CQB unless supported with Kroot/Battlesuits. Other than that I'm not sure if I'd want to collect any of the other armies available.
In all honesty, with some of those 1st/2nd edition models, you could have the foundations of an absolutely stunning Necron army. And, quite frankly, they're a great army if you're starting from scratch. Easy to paint if you want to go simple, and tough as nails. Immortals can chew through everything short of Space Marines effortlessly, and the rank-and-file just won't stay down. Imagine Space Marines with Ld10 and Feel No Pain at 18pts a pop. Sure, they're Initiative 2, but that's a small price to pay.Dectomax said:So, my question to you is, what do you think I should do? Repair/Repaint my old army, Collect a new Space Marine army or start anew with Tau?( Looking at most of 1500pts battles ).

Oh yeah, even though I don't play them myself, but when a whole platoon decide to shoot at my Assault Terminators... out come more dice than I can shake a stick at!Dectomax said:Sounds like they're definitely worth me looking at! I was just always put off of them by their general uselessness, but I can see the bonus of 40+dice rolled...one of them's gotta hit, right?
Ah, now with the guy playing the blood angels...He's new, so he's not going to bother me with too much yet. I may have also neglected to tell him some of the special rules for them...( I'm, a terrible person ).
I've never really played against the Blood angels, so I never really had to make a tactic to fit around them. I think that might be a flaw in my gameplan...
Oh yeah... I've been on the receiving end of that... my eight Quins got tarpitted by a squad for three turns. I was stuck between laughing and banging the table in frustration (invariably, I did both). A lack of sixes for the Kisses and good saves... well, saved him. Still, I won because his two Russes got whacked by my Wraithlord early on so *phew* But my god! those guardsmen can be tenacious...!Dawns Gate said:I'd say imperial guard, its fun to come up with a good strategy in which you win against a chaos army (the first guy I beat freaked the fuck out) or play a game where you are so surprised your section survived that close combat move. I also think it's great that you can encircle your enemy and slowly close in and he can't kill your men fast enough, but you the same so it becomes an orgy of hand to hand combat until one of your armies dies.
Not only models, but a codex. Probably next year, but if GW started the process of creating a new codex, which takes about 18 months, and they started last September, I'd say next summer we'll have a brand new Necron codex.seamusotorain said:I'm the third person to say this, for good reason - they're awesome. The Elite units are a little pricey money-wise, but they're lovely models with lovely weapons and lovely rules. Rumors are also abound that they're going to get some new units soon.Turpster said:Nah man, you've got to get yourself some Nekrons.
Tau are quite interesting, although I play Space Marines (or played, rather). The new Grey Knights have some sweet models (like the dreadknight, sort of. The model is eh but the stats are great), but a friend of mine loved the Necrons. Really, it's personal choice. Go to a game store (or a Games Workshop store) and look through the codices, and see which army you like the most.Dectomax said:So, after digging through my attic I came across a very special box. A box from my childhood. Upon opening it, there lay my Dark Angels. My favourite models ( At the time ). They were covered in dust and in varying states of disrepair.
