American here saying British SAS. SEAL's are close but it's pretty commonly accepted that the Brits got us beat in "best special forces." Also, you could have added the IDF special forces. Those Israeli's grow up in a battleground and know how to take care of business. You also left out most of the American SOCOM, while it is pretty well known that the SEALS are the best we have, there's USAF CCT's, USAF Paramedics, and USMC MARSOC.

EDIT: It's mostly known that Russian Spetzsnaz is on par with our Army Rangers, who are blown out of the water by the SEALS. Unless you're using some really weird credentials for what makes one of them the best, in terms of effectiveness, the only competition is between the SEALS and SAS.
if you have the ability to deploy THAT many acronyms, america might just win by a hare. but there is friendly fire on in the real world, remember guys.

i just remembered sas have psycho, so you loose by default sorry.

As a Canadian I'm gonna have to go with JTF2 (and I had even heard of them before this thread!)

But seriously, the whole thing is arbitrary and impossible to quantify. I only voted as I did because I am a proud Canadian who sometimes wishes one of our ally's general citizenry was more aware of Canada's military history and accomplishments.

Honestly, you guys and gals to the south, I don't care if you want to make jokes about Canada, as long as they are funny (hell, we do too), just make sure you have some awareness of the truth as well.
I agree JTF2 is very very good but getting recognition runs contrary to everything they do, the Canadian Forces keeps everything JTF2 does under wraps (from the world and from Canadians) which is good for a special ops unit imo.

Talk to allied soldiers who were involved at some point with JTF2 or the 427SOAS and they're all praises for Canadian soldiers, that's pretty much the only way to get info, as command will not disclose anything about our special ops units.

The motto of JTF2 is "Deeds, not words" which i think is very fitting hehe...

The ones that won't ever get media attention. So I think that seal team 6 gets the boot just for that.

The CIA special operatives, they recruit from every branch of the military and every special forces groups. Most are not operators but the ones that are had the physical capability to pass seal training, the mental fortitude to get into delta, the intelligence to be an intelligence officer/engineer/ comm officer, and the marksmanship of the marines scout snipers. They have the authority to walk into any situation and take control of whatever military action is gong on. The CIA was leading Seal Team 6 when they got Bin Laden.

The most elite military forces out there are the ones we don't know about. Black OPS Specialist took out Bin Laden, Navy Seals were given credit to cover them up hence why the copter was destroyed. It was damaged just had evidence of others being there first. Sounds like foil hate knowledge but its the truth, no Country will ever reveal their true Elites to anyone but the person in charge of their country and it is a highly select few whom no longer exist in data or on paper.

Also, why didn't you mention the French Foreign Legion? US Green Berets (they don't like being called a 'hat')? Germany's Kampfschwimmer? These guys are some of the Elite in their fields.

Technically Delta Force don't exist. Or at least the US Government denies it's existence.

As for Black Ops, they are not to supposed to exist hence the name. Everything Black Ops does is illegal to international law.

Russian Spetsnaz is a board term for Any Russian Special Forces, though limited to a Regiment with many smaller units in its command.

British Royal Marines is a branch of the British Armed forces and by it self not special forces unit. But there are British Royal marines in British special forces units.

German GSG 9 are German Federal police and not military, there better compared to other polices forces and not military units. See Kampfschwimmer.

Isreali Commando's.

Anyone who knows anything about extensive combat training and weapons, knows that they are the strongest unit.

Behind them come the American Seal's.

Why? Isreali Commando's train them.
Wrong, Israeli Commandos never train the US Navy SEALs. The USMC used to Train the Navy Seals because (at one time) no one in the US Navy was qualified to do so, until the Seals have enough in their ranks to train them selves. On top of that very few Navy personnel are in the Seals, most are Army or Marine personnel. Also you misspelled Israeli, A before E.

Some good points in your last 2 posts.

Some FYI for other readers

French Foreign Legion?: Bad Asses as there training as a 80% survival rate, that means 20% die during introductory training but (in my opinion) they are far from the best. Honestly though most military units see the Foreign legion as criminals working for the French rather than proper solders (regardless if this is true or not).
FYI all of the Foreign Legion isn't french, and many join to scape there previous lives.
The Foreign Legion was exclusively created for foreign nationals willing to serve in the French Armed Forces

Kampfschwimmer is Germany's only special forces, and the only unit to survive from WWII.

Id really like to see what your basing this on. Because iv never heard a commonly accepted rate of who is better than who.

If its your opinion just say its your opinion man.
I come from a large military family. I'm getting commissioned in the USMC after I get out of college. I'm around military personnel 24/7. Every male in my family and half the females are in the military. I have 6 family members in the USMC and 2 in SOCOM. One of them is a CCT (AF SOCOM) who has personally worked with SAS and the other is a cocky-ass SEAL. They all admit that the SAS have them beat.
No offense sir but that is not a stat that is an opinion still. I have several members of my family who were in the US army and they will say the Isreali army is scary. but hey its not worth fighting about.

What, the mission where they crashed a helicopter next to Bin Laden's house? Damn, those are some sneaky operations there...
I don't think its too much of a stretch to say more american special forces are killed in helicopter crashes then in combat. One mission during Reagan's presidency is actually the deadliest battle ever for Ranger's, where they lost a large amount of units thanks to bad info and faulty helicopters or something.

Sir i dont want to turn this into a fight. But that statement was false, many people once accepted the earth was flat didnt make it true. Not the same thing but it begged being said.

I did not say "becomes fact" I said "becomes generally accepted as fact." There's a big difference between the two. I never stated that what I said was absolute, I simply said that its "generally accepted as fact." People generally accept the current format of our solar system as fact but there is a chance that some anomalies that we can't possibly understand have happened to distort what it actually is.
EDIT: I know that was a poor metaphor, but I couldn't think of anything else. But I the important part was the general message I was trying to say.

The SAS can do the same thing out of a helicopter. Trust me man, I come from a cocky military family that admits this. I have a cocky SEAL relative who even says he wouldn't be able to take a SAS operator.
Then your Cocky SEAL realative isnt really a seal. Period.
I'm sorry, but I feel that you don't have a right to judge someone doing the hardest most dangerous job in the world. Where does your point of reference come from? Because in my experience the majority of SOCOM operatives are actually very quiet and modest, never the kind of people you would expect to be trained into perfect killing machines.
