Ok there's something I've got to get off my chest. I consider myself a major trekkie. Many trekkies hated the new star trek film. Described it as nothing but a giant fan wank.

Well I'm a fan. I got wank'd. And I liked it!

I am not against remaking films. If the story was good enough the first time, then it can be redone in a more modern setting with more talented actors and better special effects. That's not to say that it can't be royally cocked up and ruined. And hey! Some remakes are good!

Sorry, just had to highlight this part

Moving on...

I'm not liking The planned remake of The Blob that Rob Zombie is planning, seeing as he plans on removing The Blob itself from the movie.

For every remake I reserve judgement until I see both versions, then I decide if the remake is good or if its a piece of shit.

Or I take each film by its own merits.

Either way, its worked so far.

99% of remakes are bad, but I think Clash of the Titans could actually turn out to be pretty epic.

Most of the time, remakes are worthless. On occasion, it is interesting to update them, but in general, they just damage something that was brilliant beforehand.

It depends entirely on the remake. Many flop, but some have turned out to be great. The new Star Trek movie was an example of one that got it right. The numerous Miracle on 34th Street remakes are examples of those that get it wrong. Clash looks good and I remember seeing it as a kid and thinking it was hokie. I'm no fan of Ray Harryhausen's work, so that movie flopped for me. Hope the new one is better.

Anyone else hear about the remake of Footloose? Its outrage, why can't they remake crappy movies? At least then they have a chance of being decent.

I hate them because 99/100 times they're bad or completely fucking retcon the first movie.

Ten times out of ten a remake is because some greedy asshole in marketing didn't want to be arsed to come up with an idea for a marketable property himself, so he instead thought "I know! Let's rape an entire generation's childhood!"

They don't bother me. True I'd rather see them come up with something new and unique, but whatever.
Far too much energy is wasted hating things that aren't going to go away no matter how much you hate them, so why waste the energy?

Depends on what they're remaking generally speaking they are very bad but that's not always true. Take Ocean's 11, very popular film, spawned two sequals. It was a remake. Hills have Eyes, if you like slasher flicks, was pretty decent. Just because something is a re-make doesn't mean it will automatically be crap... just very likely.

I call false dichotomy on you OP. For shame.

It depends on both the moviegoer and the movie, some remakes suck, others not so much, and there will (almost) always be disagreement.

actually no he did NOT say that he was removing the Blob from the movie. he said "i'm not doing the blob and a big red blob cause it would look like crap. i'm doing something else with it"

i actually agree with him, having people run from a big huge Blob would be horrible. even in the late 80s remake they changed the Blob to something else.

as for me, i don't care either way. there's some classic films that are remakes, such as The Magnificent Seven (Seven Samurai), The Omega Man (The Last Man on Earth), The Departed (Infernal Affairs), Dracula (done so many times), Dawn of the Dead, A Fistful of Dollars (Yojimbo), The Last House on the Left, Never Say Never Again (Moonraker) and the list goes on

here's a list of remakes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Film_remakes

frankly there's a bunch of great remakes out there and i think the Clash of the Titans will be good, the original was rather hokey, even for the time it was pretty cheesy.

I'm torn because they are either really cool or fail so bad that they hurt to watch.
