Poll: Who is better Cloud or Squall

I voted for Squall because I identified with him a bit more while playing through FFVIII, and I even looked a little bit like him once.

However, Balthier is way more awesome than either Cloud or Squall and was the only reason I didn't hate 12 for Vaan. And I thought Tidus was bad...

I guess I'm being kinda biased because FF8 is the only FF I've played all the way through, but I've seen most of FF7 and I gotta say, they don't seem much different. I just like Squall better, I thought his character developed really well over the course of the game. I just know somebody is going to argue with me but, oh well.

I thought Tidus started off annoying, but I do have to credit him with growing into a strong character at the end. He proves himself truly fearless by the end. I won't go into how fearless for fear of fearful spoilers which I fear will get me fearfully blocked by the most fearful moderators fearful lightning sent down from their most fearful clouds... did I over do it?

My favorite FF character would be... Auron, because who's story it is, and is pretty mysterious.
In the poll, Squall is the best, because hes got a gun in his sword, hes got two names(Leon) and he's less emo than Cloud. Also, its possible to carry Squall's sword without falling over.

But OT, I don't know. Cloud is a lying sack of crap, and Squall is socially retarded.

Cloud can tweak his materia to high hell, but Squall can do it infinitely with the junction system.

Cloud has a weapon the size of a van, Squall brings a fucking knife and a gun to a knife fight.

Cloud is actually involved with his party. Squall can only maintain a conversation with an unconscious woman.

But that isn't what you were "just" saying, it's ONE of the things you were saying. The easiest one to defend I might add. And it is ridiculous to say that a character without a story is better than another with a "bad" one (even though I can think of a couple of people who would disagree with you), because even though it is "bad" at least it exists.

In the end, between these two it comes down to this:

Cloud: Cold and self-centered. Overrated with an overpowered super move. Angst ridden and lacks personal depth due to lack of dialogue showcasing his actual emotions. Everything he said was either the obvious or negative (He even lacked Inner monologues). Even his 'Moment to shine' inspirational speech was rather lame. Easily manipulated the entire game because he was gullible and thought he was someone else (No amnesia required either). Big sword is obviously compensating for lack of character.


VS


Squall: Cold and quiet. Underrated with an overpowered super move. Angst ridden, but is able to man up and lead when the shit hits the fan. Abandoned as a child with rough upbringing allows consideration that he is in fact a pity-case and not just a dick. Has the worst romance with a Mary-sue. Carries a Gun(/)Blade that doesn't seem to be anymore special than a sword. Inner monologues were relevant and a credit to his character. Cool jacket too.

Winner: Squall (But not by much)

REAL winner: Locke and Zidane(all for having their shit together in their own games. Zidane may have had a breakdown but at least he smiled on a regular basis and actually showcased Heroism. Likewise for Locke.)

I like CLoud more, even though Squall looks cooler. Squall only personality trait seems te be, that he is angry at everyone. I really dont like anti-heros.
Aside from claods dorky hair style i think he is a cool guy.
